❤️💚 Spirit days at school are upon us! 💚❤️

Are you team yay or nay when these things happen?

This is Ms. Bethany who is the well-loved attendance clerk from Miller Elementary! She makes staff and students alike smile on spirit and non-spirit days.

Drop a picture of you or your students and how they are celebrating this week!! Can anyone top Ms. Bethany’s homemade, upcycled, dress like a Christmas tree outfit ?

Today we had the privilege of participating in Wreathes Across America here in Arlington. This is the second year for it locally. I enjoyed seeing the Scout troops participating along with the student council from Hill Elementary that donated 20 wreathes to be placed. We have a community that serves others so very well.

We are hurting along side with our friends at Mary Moore Elementary. Please pray for Liyah-Grace’s family, friends and teachers. This is a tragedy for this school, those involved and all who witnessed it yesterday. Prayers never seem like enough but today it is all I can do.

Tonight our board voted to name Dr. Matt Smith as our lone finalist for Arlington ISD Superintendent. Under state law, there is a 21-day waiting period before the Board can vote to finalize his employment, and a Board meeting to do so is tentatively scheduled for January 8.

We are looking forward to having Dr Smith and his family join us!

Exciting news, Arlington ISD community! We are thrilled to announce that after an extensive search process, the Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Matt Smith from Belton ISD as the lone finalist for our next Superintendent of Schools! 🎉

Dr. Smith brings an impressive track record of educational leadership and innovation to our district, with over two decades of experience serving students and families. Last night was a bucket list item for me. I was able to announce the Arlington Holiday Lights Parade with the talented Lori Woods. I love seeing our community out in action. It is so obvious to see the pride and love in moments like this. Thank you to the Stubbs family for this labor of love! ❤️💚⭐️

Thank you for your continued bond support!

A new page on the district's 2019 Bond website gives a bird's eye view of all the bond construction that is complete, underway or still to come.

I am thankful for being elected in May to serve our students, staff, and stakeholders. I can look back on these past six months and see God’s hand in all of it. I am thankful for a district that allows me to serve and be myself. As a friend joked after seeing this video …. you can’t take the children’s minister out of me. Happy Thanksgiving to each of you.

Remember, if all else fails at an awkward family meal today, use my joke from the video.

Yesterday, my youngest and I went to look at the extraordinary paper “plates” created by our local Arlington ISD students. The winning plate from each school will be turned into a ceramic plate and then auctioned off at the Arlington ISD Education Foundation Dream Makers Banquet. There was so much talent that picking my favorite was hard!!!

Do you love our teachers? ❤️
Do you love our retired teachers? 🍎
Then vote YES!!!!!✔️

Reasons to vote for Prop 9:
1) No public school retiree since 9/1/2004 has ever received a cost-of-living adjustment. Most retired teachers are not eligible to receive Social Security; therefore, a TRS pension is their primary source of income.
2) It won’t create a tax increase! The Texas Legislature has already set aside the funds to make this happen with voter approval.
3) Prop 9 is ENDORSED by the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA)!

Dean P. Corey Academy of Fine Arts and Dual Language does “Kindness Week” every year, and the highlight for me is helping be one of the voices of the Magic Mirror! Every student and staff member comes and stands in front of the mirror to hear:
* what is unique about them
* they are PERFECT the way they are
* why they matter
* how loved they each are
And finally, how they can go and share kindness in their community.

Hiding in a dark closet, watching them try to figure out the Magic Mirror’s voice, and then walking away smiling is selfishly one of my favorite volunteer activities I get to participate in each year.

It reaffirms that kind words DO change people and matter.
Our words matter to ourselves and others.

As the Magic Mirror would say, “Be kind to yourself and be kind to others. Bye bye now 🧚🏼‍♂️💜🧚🏼‍♂️💜🧚🏼‍♂️”

Four years ago, as residents, we voted YES for the 2019 Bond.

It is 2023, and we are continuing to see the fruits of this bond passing!

Did you know that the state does NOT fund updates or repairs to our schools?
That all comes from bonds being passed.
No, you can’t give teachers raises from bonds. 😉

Bonds are what take a school from the 50’s and 60’s and give it a 60 and 70-year update! Our community members who voted YES make these much-needed updates and changes possible.

Friday, we celebrated and raised money for Arlington ISD Education Foundation at the Broadway Bash. Each table was a different musical from Elf, Into The Woods, Sweeny Todd, Oklahoma, Sound of Music, Hamilton, and Grease. We came as The Music Man.

They had students from all the fine arts programs integrated throughout the experience. We had “reporters” on the red carpet, live artists painting, singing, drum circles, and more.

We are thankful to Jeannie Deakyne, Barbara Heizer, and the entire AEF board for how they pour into our district. Thank YOU for thinking outside the box.

Happy 50th anniversary to Dunn Elementary! Last night, we celebrated with past principals, emcee Mrs. Holder, current and former students and teachers, former trustee Dan Dipert, the AHS Drum Line, and more!!

Seeing the time capsules from each decade was a blast from the past. Mrs. Holder walked us down memory land and how much has changed: open classrooms without walls, mandatory pantyhose for all female teachers, and when 2nd-grade students petitioned then Mayor Vandergriff for playground equipment at nearby Clarence Foster Park.

We celebrated the past and embraced the future. Dunn unveiled a new logo that will carry them through the next 50 years. Congratulations Dunn Dragons ❤️🖤❤️🖤❤️🖤
