Today we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King was a uniquely effective champion of equality and his non-violent, thoughtful messages remain just as powerful and uplifting today as during his life.

Magellan Federal has enjoyed the many benefits of a very diverse team, bringing a multitude of rich experiences and perspectives, unified by our compassion and commitment to service. Together, we are truly stronger in our mission to support our Military, federal workers, and their families.

On this day, we ask that you take a moment of silence to honor Dr. King and his mission of peace.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

National Influenza Vaccination Week takes place in December each year.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends flu shots for everyone age six months and older. So why doesn’t everyone get a flu shot?

Unfortunately, a few common myths scare people away. For example, some people worry that you can get the flu from a flu shot. The belief that the flu “isn’t that bad” can also lull people into thinking they don’t need the vaccine. Learn the truth about flu shots so you can stay healthy this winter, here: https://bit.ly/38tLucs

Today marks the 78th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. On this day in 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service launched a strike on the Hawaiian Naval base, the catalyst for the U.S. entering in World War II.

According to History.com, although the attack had a high casualty count, the Japanese failed to achieve their ultimate goal of disabling the U.S. fleet, as no U.S. aircraft carriers were present on that day.

On this infamous day, we ask that you take a moment to reflect with us on the 2,403 Service members who lost their lives. May their sacrifice never be forgotten. #PearlHarbor

Happy Thanksgiving, from all of us at Magellan Federal!

Whether you’ll be enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving turkey, a Friendsgiving feast, or both, let’s take this time to reflect on the people who enrich our lives; from our friends and family, to the people we interact with in our daily lives.

FUN FACT: According to DoD.mil (https://bit.ly/2OnFV7b), while most people associate the tradition with Plymouth Rock, the Thanksgiving tradition as we know it was started by Gen. George Washington who, in 1777, called for “a day of thanksgiving” as a victory celebration of the Battle of Saratoga. However, it was President Abraham Lincoln who set the date we now celebrate Thanksgiving—the last Thursday in November.

November is National Family Caregivers Month

This month, we recognize the men and woman who selflessly care for their ill or disabled loved ones. These caregivers make sacrifices that sometimes can be tough, but always worthwhile. It is even more so for Military families and Military caregivers. Military caregivers advocate on behalf of Service members, talk to doctors, learn about resources, and decode a complicated system of care. For many, feelings of fear and isolation accompany their sense of duty to provide care.

Here at Magellan Federal/AFSC, we would like to thank all caregivers. Your support is immeasurable to the lives of the ones you care for.

Each Veterans Day, our Nation pays tribute to the heroes among us who have taken that very special oath to defend our country.

Unlike the solemnity of Memorial Day, which is focused on the ultimate price of war, Veterans Day is also a positive celebration—a celebration of human strengths and virtues embedded within the military community.

On this Veterans Day, let us all pause collectively and celebrate our United States Veterans.
