Each Veterans Day, our Nation pays tribute to the heroes among us who have taken that very special oath to defend our country.

Unlike the solemnity of Memorial Day, which is focused on the ultimate price of war, Veterans Day is also a positive celebration—a celebration of human strengths and virtues embedded within the military community.

On this Veterans Day, let us all pause collectively and celebrate our United States Veterans.

Have an out-of-the-area friend or family member be an emergency contact. During crisis situations where local networks may be overloaded or even down, long-distance phone calls may actually have more of a chance of going through.

August is Back to School Month, with parents, and educators all taking part in the lead-up to another busy school year. Preparing for students’ success is a responsibility also shared by the U.S. Army Adolescent Support and Counseling Services (ASACS) counselors. At DODEA Daegu Middle High School (Camp Walker, South Korea), one such counselor worked to introduce a weekly, year-round Role Model Club. With so much on students’ plates academically, ASACS counselor Jasmin C. created the Role Model Club to give students a place to promote healthy decision-making skills and tackle many common teenage issues, such as, learning skills, bullying, and body image. We can't thank Jasmin, as well as all other ASACS counselors and educators around the globe, enough for the empowerment she helps bring to her students.

As the school year begins, we can only hope that all students become Role Models and lead their peers through positive influence.
