Strategies to Navigate Stress and Build Resilience During COVID-19

View the webinar that everyone is raving about!

”Seriously, one of the best I’ve attended, I’m looking forward to sharing the recording with friends and family”…”Wow, this is fabulous and so generous—many people could benefit from these resources”…” Is there a way we can receive a link to hear it again and again and again?”…”Thank you. This was an eye opener on how to acknowledge the benefits of stress to improve my life.”

Magellan Federal’s very own Laura Kirschner, M.Ed, CMPC, from the Army Ready and Resilient (R2) Program hosted a virtual webinar (with 1,700+ attendees!) sharing insights on why people are experiencing counterproductive thoughts and tips on how to build optimism.

This Memorial Day, join us in honoring our Service men and women who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Though we can’t all gather together at national memorial sites this year, we can still participate in a few “socially distant” ways that allow us to still come together for a great cause. Here are just a few examples of how you can help honor our fallen:
• Fly the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon. Memorial Day is a day of “National Mourning.”
• Take a virtual tour of the Arlington National Cemetery Memorial Amphitheater Centennial - https://www.arlingtoncemetery.mil/Memorial-Amphitheater-100
• Participate in a “National Moment of Remembrance” at 3:00 PM local time, to pause and think upon the meaning of the day and for taps to be played where possible.
• Renew a pledge to aid the families of our fallen and disabled veterans.
• Take a private moment to remember those who have fallen, and the gratitude we feel for the many freedoms of our country.

Have a safe holiday and a special thank you to all who serve and have served our country! #HonorThem #MemorialDay

Military Appreciation Month: Military Caregivers

Military Caregivers often don’t think of themselves as heroes, but they are. Those who care for our wounded, ill, and injured Service members are a special group of individuals whose sacrifices not only help their loved ones live a quality life, but also help support a very important population of veterans in our Armed Forces. Caregivers often make selfless sacrifices and may at times feel alone in their efforts, but they are not. There are many services available to help Military Caregivers locate and connect with the resources they need to care for their loved ones, as well as themselves.

For more resources available to Military Caregivers, visit:

Thank you, Military Caregivers, for caring for our heroes.

Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day

The people in our Armed Forces are amongst the country’s best, brightest, and most committed to service. It’s no surprise that those who chose to marry them often share these qualities.

On this day, we recognize the many sacrifices that military families make – specifically spouses, who selflessly support their loved ones while they serve.

Magellan Federal is one of many employers partnered with the Military Spouse Employment Program (MSEP), a DoD program that helps connect employers with skilled military spouses, ensuring that they are given the recognition and support they deserve.

Watch Oscar Montes, Magellan Federal CEO, who spoke at last year’s MSEP induction ceremony here:

We Support Month of the Military Child

Every year in April, across all branches of the Military, we recognize Month of the Military Child, as well as Child Abuse Prevention Month. For the last day of April, Army IMCOM, G9 decided that they would all come together, while being apart, to wear blue to show support to our Military children, while simultaneously standing up for their safety and wellbeing. Blue is the color of child abuse prevention. Magellan Federal New Parent Support Program (NPSP) Home Visitors and Victim Advocates were encouraged to wear blue and submit a photo. This “Go Blue” video was developed by our NPSP Deputy Program Manager, Michelle Penman, in support of the campaign and displays the participation and dedicated support of our NPSP participating employees. Thank you Valerie!!

We know that situations that are unclear and/or it's our first time experiencing them can be triggers for a type of thinking we call catastrophizing. While this may not be something you do all the time, or maybe never up to this point, we're all experiencing something we haven't before with this COVID pandemic, and that could impact the types of thoughts we have. Check out the video below for more information on WHAT catastrophizing is and how to STOP it if you find yourself thinking that way.

It's best to set small goals and change your habits a little bit at a time. Over time, small changes can make a big difference in your health. To get started, choose just one thing from this list of suggested changes in your eating habits: https://bit.ly/3amPps6

National Nutrition Month

Having good nutrition is important at any age. But it is very important for older adults. Eating a healthy diet can help keep your body strong. It can also help lower your risk for disease.
But as you get older, it can be harder to eat in healthy ways. If you have health problems or can't be active, you may not feel as hungry as you used to. You may not plan and make meals as often.
