Copied from our Nextdoor website:

We are in the midst of the great duck round-up II in which the decision has been made by a FEW that will affect EVERYONE – ALL the ducks on the pond are in the process of being removed!!! This is a sad and short sighted decision that needs to be challenged.
We have 2 species of ducks on the pond, Muscovy and Pekin. The Muscovy ducks have been here the longest and are the ones that breed constantly and cause the population explosion and need to be managed appropriately. The Pekin ducks have only been here for about 6 months and they are a separate pack which are distinguished easily from the others as the one all black duck (with the hair-do!) and 3 all white ducks. These ducks have not demonstrated ANY mating habits since being on the pond and should and need to be allowed to remain.

Muscovy ducks should be removed; Pekin ducks (4) should be allowed to remain!!!

Here are the facts on the 2 duck species:

Muscovy Ducks –
Muscovy ducks are considered an invasive species. This is a somewhat aggressive duck; males often fight over food, territory or mates. The females fight with each other less often. Some adults will peck at the ducklings if they are eating at the same food source. This species does not form stable pairs, they will mate on land or in water - domesticated Muscovy ducks can breed up to three times each year. The hen lays a clutch of 8–16 white eggs, usually in a tree hole or hollow, which are incubated for 35 days. This is what is creating the population multiplication on the pond for the ducks and needs to be regulated.

Pekin Ducks –
Pekin ducks make ideal companion animals for a variety of reasons. As a duck imprints on a human, the bond of trust that develops rivals that of humans and dogs, for example, and can provide enduring companionship if they are not surrounded by other ducks. Pekin ducks are very intelligent, and are capable of lifelong strong and loyal bonds with humans, and often then prefer human company over the company of other ducks. Pekin ducks are less "broody" than other ducks which means they will incubate eggs less frequently and they are more likely to abandon their nest before their eggs hatch (again there has been no mating behavior for these 4 ducks since they have arrived on the pond). Pekin ducks, for the most part, are too heavy to get airborne. While some individual ducks may be lighter and capable of short bursts of vertical flight, clipping their flight feathers (pinioning) is generally unnecessary – their mobility on and around the pond will and has been entirely on duck foot!

We are one of the blessed homeowners in the neighborhood whose back yard is on the pond and we enjoy as most other homeowners enjoy the wildlife on the pond as a peaceful relaxation.
PLEASE do not remove the Pekin ducks!!! By allowing these 4 ducks to remain while removing the Muscovy ducks is an appropriate and correct action and compromise to controlling the duck population on the pond while allowing for enjoyment of nature.

Is anyone available to help take down the garland and the Christmas lights at the front? We will probably try to do some of it this afternoon since it'll be warmer today than the rest of the week.

Would you be interested in participating in a family Secret Santa program for residents of Wildwood Estates?

Secret Santa is traditional activity for members of a community or family to give small gifts anonymously throughout the holiday season. This activity encourages generosity and is a fun and convenient way to connect with neighbors. How fun would it be to find a small gift every once in a while on your doorstep when you come home from work or school? Details on the program will be developed and communicated if there is enough interest.

This morning at 7:20 am, there was a white pickup driving slowly through the neighborhood (seen driving in and out of Wildrock Court and then turning left on Pecan Creek). License plate number has been noted. Hopefully no one left anything valuable sitting outside (like kid's bike).

It may just have been someone looking for a house to buy or someone looking at lawns so that they could solicit for landscaping services. But it's better to be safe than sorry.

NNO REGISTRATION FORM

Neighborhoods throughout our city are being invited to come together for our 33rd Annual National Night Out. This year National Night Out in Texas will be observed on Tuesday, October 4th 2016.
We are overjoyed with the fact that The City of Arlington ranked 3rd among the largest cities in the country for participation in National Night Out! This year, we are hoping to get even more neighborhood groups involved!

It is about that time to begin planning and discussing this year’s festivities. Residents throughout Arlington are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outdoors with neighbors and city officials on this fun filled evening. The evening usually consists of a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, live bands, youth activities and much more!

Below are the hyperlinks to the NNO webpage for 2016 along with an attachment showing our Community Support Efforts for 2016 Project365 and how you can qualify for a food platter for your NNO party.

A Gray Mercury Sable license plate #713HNP Minnesota was parked in the neighborhood with a guy and girl in their 20's smoking and watching people. We drove by the car and stopped at the stop sign for a minute on Rainwater. The car started to leave. A girl was kicked out of the car at the neighborhood entrance then the car sped off out of the neighborhood with tires squealing.

Be aware and be careful. This is a copperhead snake that was found in our neighborhood behind houses on Sugar Maple. Even the little ones are very poisonous. The HOA Board is going to get the rest of that area mowed and cleaned up.

To me fellow neighbors at Wildwood Estates: Last Friday I put up my Presidential Candidate Flag up along with a small yard sign and on Monday afternoon it was ripped off the side of my garage. There are two other Presidential Candidate flags on my block that have been there way longer than mine but they were untouched. I guess the thief did not agree with my choice of Presidential candidate. I do not believe the thieves were from our neighborhood but it hurts my family and me that this happened here in Wildwood Estates to us. Watch your surroundings for these thieves waited for us to drive off and within 5-7 minutes rushed my yard and vandalized it. I will file a police report but any other information would be helpful. See video below and let me know if you can help.
We had a great turn out this afternoon! Thank you for coming out to support a local business! Don’t forget- visit Daesy’s Tropical Sno on Little Road 😊
Daesy’s Tropical Sno will be selling to Wildwood Estates tomorrow at 5:00! They have the best sno cones in the city! Tell your friends and come by for a special treat.
Hey neighbors! I have seen a bunch of photographers doing PORCHraits from the sidewalk of families in their yard or on their porch...I’m not a photographer but I have a nice camera and I thought it would be a fun idea to go around on Easter afternoon and do this for the neighborhood. Post below if you’re interested and want a picture of your family taken at a safe distance, it would be totally free!
National Night Out will be held next Tuesday, October 1st from 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Sugar Maple by the pond!! Please see the photo for more details, but food trucks will be on site and dinner will be available for purchase and the HOA will be providing dessert to everyone! Bring your own drink, chairs, and fishing pole! We'll have a fishing contest for the kids again! We have a lot of new neighbors that just moved in, so come out and meet everyone! Hope to see everyone next week!!

Are there any restrictions regarding putting in an above ground pool in the back yard of the home we are purchasing on Pecan Creek Dr.?
we are puchasing a home and wondered if there were any restrictions on above ground or in ground pools.
I'm sharing because I know we all LOVE our mailman Allen... Just an FYI. Our mailman Allen's 22 year old son was killed in Iraq Sunday by an IED. If you would just keep him his family in your prayers. http://www.star-telegram.com/news/local/community/arlington/article167227587.html
