The Arlington Police Department took great pride in providing security and protection during the visit of actor Kurt Russell and his son, Boston Russell, to the Town of Arlington. Their itinerary included a visit to the historic Jason Russell House, where department personnel collaborated with event organizers to guarantee the safety and security of all guests.
Both Kurt and Boston Russell are direct descendants of Jason Russell, who sacrificed his life during the Battle of Lexington, Concord, and Menotomy while defending his home.

As you may already know, ACMi (and all community media centers) are under serious threat, because our exclusive source of revenue (a cable franchise fee) is in precipitous decline due to the increasing rate at which people are cutting their cable services. There are two crucial bills working their way through the Mass legislature that would seek to replace some of this lost revenue by imposing fees on streaming-service providers.

Short of it is: You don't buy cable TV anymore, but you do you pay for streaming services (Netflix, HBO, etc). And because of that, ACMi and all public access centers, is at risk.

The Joint Committee on Advanced Internet Technology, the Internet and Cybersecurity will have a hearing is TODAY, scheduled between 1-5PM, there is no exact time for our specific bill.

You can watch it here:
https://malegislature.gov/Events/Hearings/Detail/4626

It is for bill: H.74 & S.34
An Act to modernize funding for community media programming

Written letters of support can be sent to the Joint Committee up until June 20th at 5pm! We will post more info on how to do this soon.
