Introducing Third Annual Shahla Hammond Scholarship Recipient – Alexandra Johnson
Shahla Hammond was an Afghanistan subject matter expert (SME) for IDS. Through her stories, wisdom, and personal human touch, Shahla taught and touched the lives of thousands of US Marines, soldiers, diplomats, and aid workers. Adored by all who had the opportunity to work with her, Shahla was a friendly and nurturing team member and mentor to colleagues. Shahla’s positive energy and good nature made her an effective counselor and great IDS ambassador.
In honor of Shahla Hammond, IDS’s President and CEO, Nick Dowling, established the Shahla Hammond Scholarship in 2018 to recognize rising #interns who embody her spirit and values. This annual #scholarship is awarded to assist with tuition and fees for higher education.
IDS’s summer internship program focuses on teaching the business side of government contracting by providing interns hands-on experience with various departments.
2020 Shahla Hammond Scholarship Recipient – Alexandra Johnson
Alexandra (Ali) Johnson was IDS’s proposals intern for the spring and summer while she completed the Elliott School’s M.A. in International Affairs program at George Washington University. Ali grew up in Colorado and moved to Washington, DC after graduating from the University of Colorado Boulder. She recently accepted a position as a proposal associate and is excited about her future with IDS. Although the internship program took place during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, IDS ensured that Ali could receive the most meaningful experience about the business aspect of government contracting.
To say Ali is an enthusiastic team player is an understatement. She is always ready to help, learn, and never sits idle. Ali exudes friendliness and professionalism in her interactions and never fails to impress. She also takes great interest in IDS’s diverse work. Ali not only embodies Shahla’s spirit, but also IDS’s core values: integrity, excellence, innovation, and respect. IDS is proud to name her the third recipient of the Shahla Hammond Scholarship. Please join us in congratulating Ali.
