June 17- 23 is National Pollinator Week!
National Pollinator Week occurs annually the third week in June and is celebrated in support of pollinator health. It's a time to celebrate pollinators and spread the word about what we can do to protect them!
Did you know beetles were among the first insects to visit flowers? Fossil records show that beetles were abundant during the Mesozoic period, which was around 250 million years ago. And beetles remain essential pollinators today!

USACE South Pacific Division Commander Col. James Handura and the Los Angeles District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Commander Col. Andrew Baker met June 18 with the LA District’s Fort Irwin USACE team and its contractors to view the progress of the new $52-million Simulations Center and the Shockwave Recreation facility under construction at the installation, which is also home to the Army’s National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California.
The LA District, along with Fort Irwin leaders, broke ground on the SIMS Center in March 2023. The 68,000-square-foot facility will afford the capabilities of not only training Soldiers at the brigade level, but also simultaneously at the division level in real-world virtual scenarios. Estimated construction completion is in 2025.
The Shockwave facility supports warfighters and their families living on the installation.

06/17/2024

The Army recently expanded the reimbursement policy and fellowship program for military spouses to promote career continuity, financial stability, professional fulfillment, talent retention and support overall military readiness.
The Army enhanced the reimbursement program for business costs and relicensing fees due to relocation for spouses and increased awareness of its paid fellowship program for the Army spouses.
“The Army is doing everything possible to remove barriers impeding employment for military families,” said Steve Yearwood, program analyst with the Army's Directorate of Prevention, Resilience and Readiness, based in the Pentagon. “By providing opportunities for career development, portable career pathways through licensure recognition among states and increased awareness of programs supporting military families, these initiatives can improve unemployment rates among military spouses and their overall economic stability and well-being.”
