Establishing financial stability is a helpful tool to pursue many goals in life. With that in mind, we are excited to launch the “Building Financial Stability, Fostering Mobility” program to work with our residents to help them reach some of their biggest life goals!
This program will allow residents to open a dedicated savings account with Arlington Community Federal Credit Union. These accounts will facilitate regular contributions from participants who will receive a 5-to-1 match on their first $500 saved. Residents can then use these funds to grow their personal savings, pay down accrued debt, or make strategic investments, allowing them to achieve their personal financial goals.
Year one of the cohort is enlisting approximately 50 adults living at APAH properties, 20 of whom will be veterans.

**Reflections on Terwilliger Place Grand Opening**
Last Friday, the APAH team celebrated the grand opening of Terwilliger Place—and it was one for the memory books! There were so many amazing moments that we are happy to now share with you, and there are even more to come!
“Terwilliger Place represents innovative housing at its finest, scaling seven-stories high, totaling 160 mixed-use affordable apartments with a veteran preference, right here in Arlington,” says APAH President and CEO, Carmen Romero. “A first of its kind in this region.”
The Honorable Denis McDonough, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, joined APAH to cut the ribbon and share the project’s impact on the veteran community. “This strategy is replicable in other locations. It can be a successful blueprint to help increase the stock of housing dedicated to veterans and provide more opportunities for those who have served."
Resident and US Navy Veteran, Robert Davis, describes Terwilliger Place as being “…the peace and comfort of having my own space that I can afford. I watched this property being built from the ground up… it is incredible to come home to every day!”

1. Philanthropy was critical. APAH's first capital campaign, "Uniting to Serve" met the need with Ron Terwilliger’s leadership gift of $1.5 Million. Mr. Terwilliger has also committed to fund Resident Services programming for three years.
2. Policy Forum – Led by APAH Board Chair Matt Birenbaum, APAH Board Vice Chair Rich Jordan and APAH Board Member Bobby Rozen – Displaying APAH’s thought leader in the policy space, organized by Brian Goggin.
3. Secretary McDonough’s presence and voice emphasized Terwilliger Place as a blueprint for other Veteran servicing organizations to follow.
4. First affordable housing in Virginia with a veterans preference (50% of the units) and Twenty-Six Deeply Affordable Units at 30% AMI.
5. Resident Robert Davis’ story was one of resilience and pride.
6. Property amenities include EarthCraft gold, resident services, private counseling rooms, community spaces, playground, courtyard and more.
7. American Legion Post 139 celebrates soon-to-open 6,000 square foot new condo space at Terwilliger Place with Post Commander Bob Romano.
8. The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" gave a 15 minute concert and The United States Army Continental Color Guard presented the colors, and American Legion Flag Presentation to Ron and Bruce Terwilliger.
9. Uniting to Serve Donor Wall and custom art was made by local artist Elizabeth Kendall.
10. Interior design for Terwilliger Place was curated by US Air Force Veteran Kia Weatherspoon, NCIDQ, ASID.
