Today is National K-9 Veterans Day. This day is set aside to honor the service and sacrifices of American military working dogs.

Dogs have served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 80 years. From shore patrols in WWII to narcotics prevention and explosives detection of today, they have served side by side with their human counterparts to protect this nation.

Thank you to the many K-9s who have served our country and continue serving today. You are pawsome!

Semper Paratus!

There are many sides to America's military forces. There's the side that most people know: big guns and explosions, stomping soldiers, and screaming jet fighters. But America's military complex is unique in the world, because it also takes a full-spectrum approach to saving lives. Yes, sometimes th....

On 17 December, Flotilla 25-12 members participated in area-wide Wreaths Across America activities. It was an icy morning but, along with the CG Auxiliary Club at Marymount University, we were able to make it to the Arlington National Cemetery and Balls Bluff National Battlefield events. Bravo Zulu to our members who braved the weather to honor veterans during the holidays.

5 things you didn't know about the Coast Guard on December 7th

The Coast Guard had quite a number of units and personnel who took part in the U.S. defense of Hawaii on that Sunday.

While most know that Coast Guard Cutter Taney took part in the battle of Dec. 7, 1941, with the attacks on Pearl Harbor, many don’t realize that the Coast Guard had quite a number of units and personnel who took part in the U.S. defense of Hawaii on that Sunday.

The CGC Storis (WMEC 38)

This day in history, 1992: CGC Storis became the cutter with the longest service in the Bering Sea, eclipsing the U.S. Revenue Cutter Bear which had held that distinction since 1929. Bear was decommissioned in 1929 after serving in the Bering Sea for 44 years and two months.

Based in Kodiak, Alaska, the USCGC Storis (WMEC 38) is the oldest commissioned Coast Guard cutter still in active service.

The Coast Guard celebrates its 226th birthday today. The Coast Guard is one of America's five armed forces and traces its founding to Aug. 4, 1790, when the first Congress authorized the construction of 10 vessels to enforce tariff and trade laws, prevent smuggling, and protect the collection of federal revenue.
