We hope you’ll take this challenge with us, add a candle, flowers, or art to the display. We need healing to do the important work ahead that is really needed to demonstrate that Black Lives Matter and we’re hoping you’ll join this Neighborhood Challenge as the first step.”

"Honoring Distinguished Women"

06/04/2020

It's been a challenging and difficult few days for the ongoing fight for racial justice and ending police brutality in this country against Black people. We see you, and we appreciate the support from across the community and those doing the work to get us there. One of those community partners, the Arlington Branch NAACP just awarded us a $250 grant for COVID-19 relief-𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊 𝐘𝐎𝐔!!

Many people have asked us how they can help and support our work, especially in light of current events. Did you know that 80% of our clientele is African American and nearly 99% of them fall in the extremely low-income bracket? Every day, we're working to provide services and support such as emergency assistance, case management, and human service application assistance for people to feel empowered- and your support goes 100% towards those efforts.

Black lives have mattered to us in the 20 years we’ve been existence and since the founding of Green Valley over 150 years ago. In a matter of just a few days, we’ve seen so much trauma regarding Black people in this country and law enforcement. This is not to new to us, but we are here as we have been and as those who have come before us, doing the work to value and protect Black lives.

We appreciate everyone who has donated and volunteered to help our clients get groceries and other necessities during this time. We can’t say it enough- thank you!

Happy hump day! We’re still hard at work here ensuring that our clients are safe and receiving groceries during this quarantine. We recently received these boxes of canned goods and produce from McLean Bible Church for our clients and here is one of our clients receiving one of the boxes.

We still need your help! With many folks out of work, we’re working hard to get food and other necessities to our clients and we can’t do it without your help. You can visit http://www.bajcdc.org to help.

Also, our office hours are strictly by appointment only. Please call or email before stopping by. Thank you!

Today is Census Day! BAJCDC is a partner with Arlington County and we are encouraging everyone to respond to the census mailer sent to your home. While you still have time to complete the census after today, here are some important dates for the census. #BeCounted

#ArlingtonVA

#BAJCDC

April 1: This is Census Day, a key reference date for the 2020 Census—not a deadline. We use this day to determine who is counted and where in the 2020 Census. When you respond, you'll tell the Census Bureau where you live as of April 1, 2020, and include everyone who usually lives and sleeps in your home. You can respond before or after that date. We encourage you to respond as soon as you can.
April 29 – May 1: The Census Bureau will count people who are experiencing homelessness over these three days. As part of this process, the Census Bureau counts people in shelters, at soup kitchens and mobile food vans, on the streets, and at nonsheltered, outdoor locations such as tent encampments.
April 16 – June 19: Census takers will work with administrators at colleges, senior centers, prisons, and other facilities that house large groups of people to make sure everyone is counted.
May 27 – August 14: Census takers will interview homes that haven't responded to the 2020 Census to help make sure everyone is counted.
December: The Census Bureau will deliver apportionment counts to the President and Congress as required by law.

The governor has announced that schools will be closed for the rest of the school year. The county is now closing all parks, recreation centers, and playgrounds. While these measures may be tough to swallow, it’s what needed at this time to contain the spread of this pandemic and hopefully get back to a sense of normalcy sooner than later.

We here at BAJCDC will continue to be a resource for you- please keep following our Facebook and other social media pages for resources for both kids and adults. If you are in a position to help support our efforts (especially to ensure our seniors receive groceries and other necessities) please consider making a donation on website at http://www.bajcdc.org/donate
