National Center on Protection Orders and Full Faith & Credit

National Center on Protection Orders and Full Faith & Credit NCPOFFC was created to facilitate inter-jurisdictional enforcement of protection orders in state, tribal, and territorial courts pursuant to VAWA.
NCPOFFC is a project of the Battered Women’s Justice Project. Our mission is to facilitate implementation of the Full Faith & Credit provision of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in all states, tribes, and territories by raising public awareness of the statute’s requirements and by providing problem-solving technical assistance and support to individuals and jurisdictions.

We provide assistance through consultation, written materials and training on: implementation and enforcement of the full faith and credit provision, enhancing enforcement of federal and state firearm prohibitions related to domestic violence, federal domestic violence and stalking crimes, and promoting enforcement of custody provisions within protection orders. Constituents include law enforcement, prosecutors, the defense bar, judges, court administrators and other court personnel, civil attorneys, victim advocates, and other professionals who work with victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. We also provide technical assistance to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.

Mission: Our mission is to facilitate implementation of the Full Faith & Credit provision (18 U.S.C. § 2265) of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). The Full Faith & Credit provision directs states, tribes and territories to recognize and enforce any protection order issued by another state, tribe or territory, if due process and jurisdictional requirements of the statute are met. NCPOFFC staff actively work to raise public awareness of the FFC provision and provide problem-solving technical assistance and support to individuals and jurisdictions for seamless implementation of VAWA. Our mission also includes enhancing enforcement of federal and state firearm prohibitions related to domestic violence, providing education on the VAWA federal domestic violence and stalking crimes, and promoting enforcement of custody provisions within protection orders.

Dear Friends, during this time of Covid-19, NCPOFFC remains open. We can still be reached via e-mail at [email protected] or feel free to leave a phone message. Please allow for retrieval of these messages, but the same problem solving technical assistance is still available. Stay well out there.

January is National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM)! Though millions of men and women are stalked every year in the United States, the crime of stalking is often misunderstood, minimized and/or ignored.
Stalking is a pattern of behavior directed at a specific person that causes fear. Many stalking victims experience being followed, approached and/or threatened – including through technology. Stalking is a terrifying and psychologically harmful crime in its own right as well as a predictor of serious violence. In 85% of cases where an intimate partner (i.e., boyfriend or husband) attempted to murder his partner, there was stalking in the year prior to the attack.
We all have a role to play in identifying stalking and supporting victims and survivors. Learn more at www.stalkingawareness.org and how you can help stop it!
