The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists

The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists The BRPT is recognized around the world for the highest standards in sleep credentialing, certification and education. The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) is an independent, nonprofit certification board that cultivates the highest professional and ethical standards for polysomnographic technologists by providing the leading internationally recognized credential in sleep technology – the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential.
(12)

Since the first credentialing exam administration in 1979 BRPT has credentialed over 17,000 RPSGTs in the United States, Canada, and 32 countries overseas. In March of 2010, the BRPT launched an entry-level certificate exam, the Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT). The BRPT is led by an active, engaged volunteer Board of Directors composed of experts in the field of polysomnography and includes at least one “public” member representing the interests of the consumer / patient community. The Board is international in scope and blends the expertise of technologists and physicians to establish and maintain credentialing guidelines for polysomnographic technologists and technicians.

Mission: The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) administers the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and the Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) exams based on best credentialing practices, which measure the knowledge, skills and abilities of technologists and technicians in the field of sleep medicine. The BRPT fosters ethical practices and requires the continued competence of those who successfully complete the RPSGT and the CPSGT exams.

We asked sleep techs to share their stories of how their roles have changed in the era of Coronavirus. Adine Davis, an RPSGT in Pennsylvania said, "My coworkers and I work for a hospital system with three hospitals throughout our county. During the COVID-19 pandemic we have been pulled in to conduct screenings at the Emergency Department entrances. We all man the night shift, which no one else wants to do. So our sleep lab is now holding down the fort staffing the night shift in the ED throughout all three hospitals." Thanks Adine, for sharing your story and for the great work you're doing in your community!

The BRPT hopes you and your families are safe and well as we all practice social distancing to help flatten the curve of COVID-19 Coronavirus. We've heard from many sleep technologists whose sleep labs have closed due to this global pandemic. We are in this together as we all do our part to minimize the spread of COVID-19. While the Coronavirus crisis changes daily, we remain hopeful that we -- and all of our colleagues in the sleep field -- will get back to doing the work we love as soon, and as safely, as possible.

Are there new laws starting November 1st? I am a RRT working in a sleep Lab in Kansas. We have 2 RPSGT in our lab. I am being told that I have to become registered by November 1st to continue working in lab alone at night. They score my studies and I work under them. Is this true? Please advise where I go to see changes if true and if not what I can show them so they can understand everything is good. Thank you
