CAMP HEAT Arlington Girls Fire Camp

CAMP HEAT Arlington Girls Fire Camp This four day overnight camp gives teenage girls a chance to experience firsthand what it takes to be an Arlington County Firefighter/EMT. The participants learn about fire behavior, fire service history, physical fitness, nutrition, CPR and fire extinguishers but more importantly they learn about pushing past limits, encouraging each other and working as a team.

The goal of the camp is to increase the participants’ confidence and empower them to consider entering physically challenging careers, such as the fire service, later in life. Activities take place at various Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) facilities, including the fire stations and our fire training academy. Overnight stay is at Marymount University, chaperoned by female ACFD staff members.

Camp pushes teenage girls towards fire service

When you think of a firefighter, what do you see? Is it a man or a woman? Perhaps unsurprisingly, the statistics show that the vast majority are men, with just five percent being female firefighters. That's why a new summer camp in our area is looking to motivate teenage girls to sign up.Β
