Transportation Security Administration - TSA

Transportation Security Administration - TSA Official Facebook Account of the Transportation Security Administration. Read our social media polic On the morning of September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people were killed in a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The attacks resulted in the creation of the Transportation Security Administration, designed to prevent similar attacks in the future. Driven by a desire to help our nation, tens of thousands of people joined TSA and committed themselves to strengthening our transportation systems while ensuring the freedom of movement for people and commerce. Brrrrrr! As temperatures dip lower and lower, you might be looking for a way to warm up during this winter travel season. Electric blankets and hand warmers are good to go in both your carry on or checked bags. For any heated jackets or sweaters, you’ll want to check the FAA’s rules on traveling with batteries. Stay warm, friends! For more on what you can/can’t bring when flying, visit: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all

Has it been a while since you've traveled? Some things may look different, but our goals remain the same. We want to make sure you get to your travel destination safely. Our officers at airports across the country continue to help make that happen.

Our best tips are to arrive at your airport early and double-check to make sure you don’t have any prohibited items in your carry-on bag. We also continue to follow guidance about face masks, which are required throughout your time at the airport and while flying. Any unruly passengers are subject to fines and the revocation of their TSA PreCheck status.

We want your experience at our checkpoints to be as as smooth as possible. If you have any questions about upcoming travel, you can reach out to our #AskTSA team here on Facebook 7 days a week.

Traveling with a snow globe

Who doesn’t love a snow globe as a winter gift? Just remember, they need to follow our liquids rule for flying. If it’s about the size of a tennis ball or smaller AND fits in a quart-sized bag with the rest of your travel-sized liquids, it’s good in your carry-on. Anything larger will need to be packed in your checked baggage.

Flip phones. Fax machines. Cassette tape players. These are all technologies that have evolved and changed over time. The same is true for airport security.

Here at TSA, we continue to evolve as well. We're invested in launching new technologies and capabilities at our checkpoints, keeping you safe even as the times (and threats) change. Since our inception in 2001, we've stayed ahead of evolving security threats by identifying new state-of-the-art ways to screen passengers, baggage, and air cargo.

Traveling with any medications? Here's what you need to know to get to your destination with everything you need:

Medications in liquid or solid form, plus any lotions or pastes in excess of 3.4 ounces are allowed in your carry on bag and are exempt from our liquids rule. This also goes for medical accessories such as IV pumps, freezer packs and syringes. To make the screening process easier, just make sure they're separated and clearly labeled.

Lions and tigers and... teddy bears?!?! Our officers at Philadelphia International Airport detected two knives concealed inside of a child’s stuffed animal last week. These officers first noticed that the back of the bear appeared to have been resewn. The toy belonged to a 9-year-old boy traveling with his mom.

We want to remind travelers that knives and other sharp objects are not allowed in your carry-on bag. If you're traveling with a knife, be sure it's securely wrapped and packed in your checked bag only. More: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/sharp-objects
