PRESCRIBED BURN PLANNED TO REDUCE WILDFIRE RISK

Arroyo Grande, CA – Five Cities Fire Authority will conduct a prescribed pile burning operation along “The Pike” on Sunday May 31st, 2026. This will be done in coordination with the City of Arroyo Grande and Temple of the People - Halcyon Township in Oceano.

This project is being conducted to reduce the accumulation of Eucalyptus slash along "The Pike". Eucalyptus slash is particularly hazardous due to its high content of volatile oils, which increase its flammability and wildfire risk.

Five Cities Fire Authority staff will remain on scene during the prescribed burning, and a permit has been issued by the SLO County Air Pollution Control District (APCD). If weather conditions and/or air quality become unfavorable, the burn may be cancelled and rescheduled.

Motorists are advised to use caution when travelling in the area, as fire equipment and personnel may be present along roadways.

Smoke will be visible during the prescribed fire between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

If you have any questions, please contact the Five Cities Fire Authority at 805-473-5490.

🚒 Today, Five Cities Fire responded to a vehicle that had driven into a commercial building. What initially appeared to be a routine vehicle removal quickly became more complex when crews discovered a live gas line directly beneath the vehicle’s left front tire.

Firefighters used precision stabilization techniques and careful coordination to keep the vehicle suspended while it was removed from the structure, preventing contact with the gas line and avoiding further damage or hazard.

Unified Command was established with Arroyo Grande Police Department, City of Arroyo Grande Building Division, Southern California Gas Company, and College Towing. This incident highlights the importance of teamwork, communication, and strong partnerships to ensure the safety of our community.
