A big thank you to the team from Partner Engineering & Science for volunteering with us on-site at our 85th home build in Wall! πŸ‘πŸ’™

The group spent the day working on the back deck and installing floor casings, making important progress. Shalean, the future homeowner of this house, worked alongside the group. Their hard work, enthusiasm, and teamwork helped to move this house one step closer to completion.

Our construction team enjoyed working alongside the volunteers, and we are grateful to Partner Engineering & Science for dedicating their time and talents to support affordable homeownership in Monmouth County.

Thank you for helping us build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. πŸ™Œ

We recently shared information about our "A Brush With Kindness" (ABWK) program. Here is an example of that program in action! πŸ’™πŸ‘

We had a great team from Altria join us in Manalapan for "A Brush With Kindness" volunteer day. The group installed a new fence, cleared the yard, and assisted with a basement clean-up. Their hard work helped improve the safety, appearance, and functionality of the property while making a difference for a local Veteran homeowner.

Projects like these are only possible because of community partners like Altria Group, who are willing to roll up their sleeves and help their neighbors. πŸ™Œ

This week, we are proud to shine a light on Malcolm Navias, a dedicated volunteer at our Asbury Park ReStore. 🀩

Malcolm relocated from South Africa 46 years ago and has called Asbury Park home for the past 27 years. His husband, Tom Pivinski, serves as President of the Asbury Park Environment and Shade Tree Commission. After selling his imported clothing store on Cookman Avenue two years ago, Malcolm began looking for a way to give back and thought Habitat for Humanity was the perfect fit.

"It would give me the opportunity to interact with people in an atmosphere I was familiar with. I have now been volunteering with Habitat for almost two years and look forward to my shift every week."

For Malcolm, volunteering combines many of the things he values most: connecting with people, sharing his knowledge, and helping others.

"It is very gratifying to be able to use my knowledge and meet and interact with people while helping those who are less fortunate than I am. I love giving my time to such a great organization. I also love the fact that being there is like joining a warm and wonderful family. I feel so embraced by all the volunteers I have met."

Store Manager Kelly Clavin shares:
"If you're an Asbury Park local, it's likely you already know Malcolm. Malcolm ran his shop on Cookman Avenue for many years, and when it closed, he brought carloads of treasures to the ReStore. What started as donating turned into volunteering! It's so fun to see people light up when they walk in and realize it's Malcolm behind the counter. His travel experiences, his funky and fabulous style, and his roots in the community are all amazing assets, but what's really special about Malcolm is his kindness and willingness to help others. We are truly lucky he found his way to us."

When asked for words to live by, Malcolm offers a simple reminder:
"Be thankful for what you have."

And we are certainly thankful for volunteers like Malcolm. πŸ˜πŸ™

A huge thank you to Home Depot for their support of local families and our affordable housing programs. πŸ’™πŸ‘

Home Depot (Cranbury) not only donated a swing set for one of our newest homeowners and her adorable 5-year-old twins, but also sent a team to help us get it set up. Home Depot volunteers joined us twice recently at the family’s new home in Fair Haven.

During the first visit, the team helped prepare and grade the ground for the swing set and also assisted with building a shed. A few weeks later, some of the group returned to assemble and install the swing set. As you can see from the photos, the children are absolutely thrilled with their new playground! πŸ€©πŸ›

We are so grateful for community partners like Home Depot, who go above and beyond to support local families and affordable homeownership in Monmouth County. πŸ™Œ
