National Kidney Center Getting the word out on chronic kidney disease http://nationalkidneycenter.org
In honor of her late husband, Jerry M. Loevner, an end-stage kidney failure patient, Sandra (“Sandy”) W. Loevner learned that there is a desperate need to raise awareness among potential donors, patients, care providers and insurance companies that there are effective treatment options for kidney failure that do not rely on long-term dialysis.

By sharing her experience as a family member who struggled to identify alternatives to dialysis and other debilitating treatments and as a pioneer in the first 5-way kidney transplant, Sandy is a driving force behind the vision, mission and goals of NationalKidneyCenter.org (“NKC”).

The National Kidney Center is a Virginia non-stock corporation, registered as a Section 501 (c)(3) non profit organization with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. The National Kidney Center will partner with related non-profit organizations and other charitable donors to support early screening, detection and treatment of chronic kidney disease.

Mission: Our desire is to share compassion with individuals who are diagnosed with kidney disorders by supporting efforts for early screening, detection and awareness of treatment options that include paired donation. The National Kidney Center will work to educate each generation about the risk factors that can lead to kidney disease and the treatment options available to live a full life. The National Kidney Center also provides a trusted online community where individuals with kidney disease can connect and share information with family members, friends and care providers. Through our educational efforts and the collective power of compassionate individuals, we will work to reduce the number of individuals who die from kidney disease each year and provide support the UNOS living donor national registry.

Fran Scibelli, owner of Fran’s Filling Station restaurant in Charlotte, needs a kidney transplant — and she’s going public with her plea in the hopes that a random stranger might offer to donate one.
