One Heart DC OneHeartDC is a movement uniting and mobilizing churches, church networks and other organizations to saturate Metro Washington DC (DMV) with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
(5)

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(Romans 15:5-6 NIV84)

• Vision

OneHeartDC is a movement uniting and mobilizing churches, church networks and other organizations to saturate the Metro Washington DC region (DMV) with the Good News of the Gospel. We want each of our 5 million neighbors to experience the love and message of Jesus Christ through one or more of our partners.

We celebrate what God is doing here – creating greater visibility and awe of God within our churches and communities.

We accelerate the spread of the Good News by sharing information, resources and teams for greater impact.

• Missional Objectives

OneHeartDC provides a platform or eco-system to release latent Kingdom building capacity for Gospel Saturation of the DMV. Three foundational ‘pillars’ interconnect the Body of Christ so we are more fully functioning:

Prayer – We are founded and fueled through prayer that strengthens our communion with God and maintains covering over our mission. We sponsor prayer and worship gatherings as catalysts for building a regional culture of prayer. We seek to cover households across our entire region in prayer by name.

Unity – We are a movement of churches, Christian leaders and organizations united in our belief that the Good News of Jesus Christ changes lives. Thus, we assume collective accountability for reaching every man, woman and child with the Gospel. Our bonds around this goal and core Christian theologies allows mobilization and collaboration together and setting aside any denominational, generational, racial and ethnic barriers. Through relationships in Leadership Clusters, we strengthen capacities for transformation of people and communities through discipleship, service and evangelism. Our unity helps us to assess regional coverage of the Gospel and assure multiplication through new church plants and missions in the gaps. Our unity results in bridge-building, reconciliation and thriving communities.

Hope – We offer hope by proclaiming the gospel in Word and demonstrating it in deed. This occurs through local and regional mobilization and collaboration together. We provide a network for sharing information on events, equipping for mission, service projects and resources, and sharing stories that inspire hope and point people to God and His glory.

Defining a Gospel Movement – City to City – Medium

We are seeing God ignite a gospel movement here in the DMV. Let's throw some wood on it!

Tim Keller describes it well..."So can we start gospel movements? Not really. They are too supernatural. But we can build or steward a gospel movement. A good metaphor is Elijah’s building of an altar in 1 Kings 18. We can build the altar, but God has to send the fire. And when the fire comes, we can throw wood on it, but we still don’t ignite it. Only God can ignite it."

Together for the Gospel

Truth. We must be repairers of the breach (Isaiah 58:12), lovers of our neighbors (Matthew 22:39) and embracers of our unity in Christ (Ephesians 4:3).

If we would have just obeyed the commandment to love our neighbor, racial tensions would be in a very different place.
Thank you, Ligon Duncan, for speaking truth today at #T4G18.

We must not underestimate the power of Dr. King’s faithfulness in pursuing God’s calling upon his life to seek justice. His example continues to inspire us to continue his work. His work is being multiplied.

Unity, reconciliation and justice are progressing within the Church of the DMV even at a time of increasing fractures in the fabric of our culture. Yet, we have a long way to go.

We have a dream that one day our Oneness across all human diversities will be displayed so brightly that the only explanation is Christ and the power of the Gospel.

"Beyond this, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. Just as the eighth-century prophets left their little villages and carried their "thus saith the Lord" far beyond the boundaries of their hometowns; and just as the Apostle Paul left his little village of Tarsus and carried the gospel of Jesus Christ to practically every hamlet and city of the Greco-Roman world, I too am compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my particular hometown. Like Paul, I must constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. letter from Birmingham jail, August 1963

My Immigrant Family

Pastor Thabiti Anyabwile speaks to how enriched we are as a nation through the character, customs and contributions of immigrants - from whom most all Americans have roots and are indebted for the courage and sacrifices of family that came before.

His diverse congregation is but a microcosm of the communities we love, fellowship and serve across Metro Washington. Let’s celebrate and worship together now as we will in heaven:

“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,” Revelation‬ ‭7:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I find it not only irresponsible but dangerous to leave the President's comments unchallenged and to pretend the resulting policy direction is free from racist bias.

Every Believer = A Missionary

In God’s intended Operating System (OS), every believer is a missionary, mobilized where they live, learn, work, and play. Now there is a resource available to help accelerate mobilization of the saints in the manner originally set out by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Head over to www.gospelsaturation.church to download your free copy of the Christ Together Gospel Saturation Primer today! This resource articulates the foundational principles and best practices One Heart DC leaders and leadership clusters are using as we work towards Gospel Saturation of Metro Washington DC together.

http://gospelsaturation.church/resources/GS-Primer.pdf

A church growth operating system places the institution of the church at the focal point and asks what we can do to collect more and more people into a singular local church. This internal focus demands the church prioritize building the organization, protecting assets, and creating programs. Churches driven by this OS would define success by how many members they have, how many people show up at their weekly services, or how expansive the church’s facilities and budget. And, while most would never say it, the drive for growth creates a competitive mindset with other local churches in our communities.

Head over to www.gospelsaturation.church to download your free copy of The Gospel Saturation Primer.

Together for Good?

Tune in tonight at 9:00pm EST when Pastor John Piper will speak online (click link below) about his burden for our racial brokenness. His is but one perspective, but hopefully he will help us reflect upon and move in action towards the full diversity, unity and oneness God intended!

Many of us living in the Metro Washington region are feeling this same way - whether African Americans or white evangelicals, whether Asian or others from minority cultures. Some are resigned that unity and reconciliation will never happen. But, we at One Heart DC feel there must be change, and it will start in the Church. We are optimistic because we are seeing progress - that you won't read about in the news.

As Christ followers, we have a biblical mandate to close the gap on racial inequality and injustice so that Jesus' prayer in John 17 becomes a reality. It sounds like folly to the world, but the power of the Gospel and the Spirit in us makes it possible (1 Cor. 1:18). If you agree and are willing to put in the work, please sign on to our Statement of Unity: http://oneheartdc.org/statement-unity.

Join John Piper here, live online, Thursday evening, November 30, at 8pm CST, as he shares his burden for the peculiar kind of racial situation we are in, especially as it relates to African Americans and “white evangelicalism.”
