Blue Ridge Audubon Chapter

Blue Ridge Audubon Chapter Welcome to the Asheville area's chapter of the Audubon Society! Our website can be found at blueridgeaudubon.org. October through March, and 8:00 a.m.

The Blue Ridge Audubon Chapter, founded in 1986, is a chapter of the National Audubon Society serving Asheville and surrounding areas. The chapter owns and manages the Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary, located off Merrimon Avenue. This land, originally slated to be developed as a strip mall in the late 1980s, was instead purchased by the chapter (with help from many generous donors) and is now a little

slice of birding heaven within the city of Asheville. Bird walks, led by knowledgeable birders, are held at the sanctuary on the first Saturday of every month - 9:00 a.m. April through September.

There’s still time to join us in June! Please remember that the Lake Julian walk begins at the Wild Wing restaurant area of the park, not the main entrance.

📍Use 65 Long Shoals Road as your gps address for the Lake Julian walk. The walk is around 1 mile round trip, and about 2/3 of that is on a mostly flat, paved or boardwalk type surface. The remaining portion that has views closer to the lake will involve uneven surfaces with rocks and roots underfoot.

Restoration plans are moving forward for one of our favorite local birding spots, Owen Park in Swannanoa. The landscape architecture firm hired by Buncombe County has drafted two design concepts based on earlier community input. We invite you to view the two proposals and give feedback through the link below. Join us in using our voices for birds and the places they need!

The drawings are best viewed on the largest screen you’ve got 😉 Survey deadline is June 26.

Trivia Time at Turgua had us thinking hard, and laughing and cheering each other on. It was a tough competition requiring a tiebreaker question, but in the end our excellent quizmasters from ReWild Asheville and Blue Ridge Audubon awarded the coveted Hellbender to just one team. Thanks for having us Turgua Brewing Company! It was a blast!
