Jennifer Patton, Former CEC D30 Candidate As of 4/14/2021 I withdrew my name from the election. It would be an honor to represent my community as a board member on the CEC.

This page will be used to help get out the vote for candidates who I think will do their best to serve D30 for all students and families. Candidate Statement:

I am a parent of a 1st grader at PS112Q as well as an educator who has worked in a variety of New York City school settings for the past 14 years. Public schools serve a vital role in keeping communities grounded and connecting neighbors in

meaningful ways. I believe it's important to approach all educational issues with humility and open hearts and minds so all families in District 30 can be equitably served. As a white mom who has only been a resident of Astoria for 8 years, I understand my limitations. Professional experience can only take us so far and often limit our ability to think holistically about an issue or see the true humanity in others we might think we have little in common with. It is vital for people in leadership roles to center humility and transparency when engaging with their community, and I promise to do just that as a CEC board member. It is essential to follow through our promises to do better, apologize with sincerity, and be aware of our privileges and advantages as it relates to our race, gender, learning/physical abilities, and economic status. It's important to be continually reflective on who is being excluded from a conversation and ask ourselves why that's happening. To me, this is the only way to truly do better in listening to, learning from, and engaging with our community. As a member of the CEC board, this will always be my guiding mindset and I will advocate for my fellow board members to do the same.

Hey Everyone! I hope you all are well and safe as we continue to live through such uncertain times.

Just wanted to highlight that tonight at 6:30pm will be the CEC's Monthly Meeting.

Included in the agenda is a resolution In Support of Equitable Elementary School Planning Process in Long Island City.

Just last spring, it was thought that a 'few' outreach events would be enough to get feedback from all of LIC about the plans for elementary school enrollment, so now that the Office of District Planning has moved ahead with hiring someone to professionally facilitate community engagement, it is really encouraging.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months so it's just not the loudest voices in the room that get heard.

If you can, please attend to speak in support of this initiative or send an email to [email protected].

Hey Everyone!

I hope you all are having a safe and enjoyable summer. I've been pretty busy keeping my kids entertained while my husband is working from home in a new role at work so apologies for the lapse in posts! Currently we're taking a little family vacation and it's been great to unplug and unwind in anticipation for the fall.

Still, looking ahead to the new school year, there's a CEC meeting coming up this MONDAY evening with a new leadership team (!!) and I hope a lot of folks can attend. On the agenda is a resolution "In Support of Adding a Remote Option for the 2021-2022 School Year". We really need to do all we can to support the most vulnerable students and families in our community so I hope this resolution passes. You can attend in person (28-11 Queens Plaza North) or virtually via Zoom.

It's Election Day!
It's Evie Day!

Rain is expected later this morning, so get up, grab a coffee and head to your polling site to vote. Evie has ALREADY worked hard to ensure affordable housing, stop the land-grabbing over-development and gentrification of our neighborhood, provide equitable educational programming in our schools and after-school sites, support our local businesses particularly during the pandemic, protect and push for a better environment and air quality in our district. Evie is the ONLY candidate with real Disability Justice, Seniors, and Arts platforms (among everything else, co-written with people for those specific communities). Let's all do our part to make sure our city and community has the best representation possible and is ready to stand up for D22 each and every day.

Election outcomes can be people-driven instead of agenda driven, just like what happened right here in District 30! And it doesn’t have to end there. Let’s continue to have meaningful, equity minded conversations as we break out of our bubbles and back to our “normal” lives.

ONE DAY MORE!!!

This is the last day to vote in the Community Education Council (CEC) Elections! Vote through your mystudent.nyc account or in person at PS 112 at 37th Avenue and Crescent Street from 4-7pm.

For assistance in accessing your mystudent account you can call 833-388-1506.

Once again this video is very helpful in guiding you through the whole voting process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIyJip0kYlc&t=13s

And be sure to share the awesome infographics from D30 Rising. GOTV messaging has never looked so cool.

True to my musical theatre dork roots, if I had the time and energy to spare, I definitely would have made out a CEC version of the lyrics to the infamous song from Les Mis. But alas, a simple gif will have to do.

As of last Thursday, only 12K out of 1.1 million had voted in the CEC election 😢. Let's hope that number went way up over the weekend! Make sure to do your part - double check with friends to make sure they voted! Re-share posts on social media! Bring up the election with a parent you regularly see at drop-off/pick up!

Fingers crossed we see great voter turnout for District 30!!
