Athens VFD has responded to several emergency calls year-to-date, including 29 fires, 18 hazardous situations, 10 medical emergencies, 6 public service requests, 4 rescues, 8 non-emergency incidents, and 1 law enforcement support operation. Although we may not report every call, we appreciate your support and will continue to provide the best possible service.

This morning at approximately 7:45 a.m., Athens VFD was paged for a vehicle fire at the Deli Mart. Two members were fortunately at the station working on paperwork and quickly responded. A truck arrived on scene in under one minute, extinguished the fire, and all units returned to quarters.

On April 3rd, Athens was paged out for assistance by Pipestem FD for a large brush fire on Big Rock Rd.

Athens VFD is proud to announce that its members have successfully completed specialized training at the Sissonville Fire School, achieving certifications in technical rescue, auto extrication, and heavy extrication (Dustin Croy), Wildland Search and Rescue awareness, Water Rescue awareness, Rope Rescue Technician (Nicholas Fields), and Firefighter 2 (Ryker Mills), further enhancing their ability to serve the community.

At 12:25p, Athens VFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Athens Road near Clark Farm. The vehicle went approximately 100 yards off the road and over the embankment. With Eastriver VFD's assistance, the patient was placed in an ambulance.

Athens VFD was paged out yesterday evening for a possible structure fire, with Princeton City Fire requesting Athens' response for additional manpower. Athens cleared the scene shortly after midnight.

At 7:48 this morning, Athens VFD responded to a call regarding a burning couch by the welcome to Athens sign. The driver of the vehicle observed the chair on fire and assumed it was likely caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette. Upon arrival, the crew of Truck 4 discovered the driver pulled the chair out of his truck had successfully extinguished the flames using a nearby puddle. As a precaution, Truck 4 utilized a water cannon to ensure the area was free of any remaining hot spots.

If you smoke, please do not dispose of cigarette butts out the window.

Three members of Athens VFD attended a Heavy Rescue Awareness and Operations training session in Sissonville over the weekend, where they learned about basket lifting, vehicle pairing, proper lifting and lowering procedures for heavy vehicles, and cutting and spreading methods on heavy vehicles.

Athens VFD was dispatched at 8:58am to attend a vehicle that had gone over an embankment with no injuries sustained. Law enforcement officers arrived and secured the scene, clearing all units.

Athens VFD responded to a rollover incident on Route 20 at Mercer Springs intersection today at approximately 2:45. Upon arrival, the driver confirmed they were uninjured, and the road is now open.
