This a bit of a long post but please hear me out.
Matthew 16:21-23 NLT - From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead.
22 But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. “Heaven forbid, Lord,” he said. “This will never happen to you!”
23 Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”
1. Jesus was not saying that Peter was Satan, nor even demon possessed, only that he was inspired by Satan.
2. People in our circles can be lead by Satan to inspire us to go against the known will of God are a danger to us.
3. People who try to inspire us to go against the known will of God may mean well, Peter meant well but in reality was discouraging Jesus from doing the Fathers will. Well meaning people can get you off track in your walk with God.
4. People inspired, or blinded by Satan, figure that the human point of view is a better plan than the plan of God for our lives.
5. “Anyone” in your circle who continually tries to persuade you against the known will of God is not a good person to have in your circle, and certainly not in your inner circle. 1 Cor 15:33 Don't be fooled by those who say such things, for "bad company corrupts good character."
