During today’s Annual Business Session in Biloxi, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves formally passed the gavel to Gov. González-Colón as she prepares to lead the Board.

Under her leadership, the Board will continue bringing together the priorities and perspectives of our member States and Territories—from the mainland to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands—as we advance a shared vision for the South’s energy future.

The Southern States Energy Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Kimberly Gray as Secretary and Executive Director, effective August 1, 2026.

Gray brings more than 32 years of service to the Board and extensive leadership in energy policy, infrastructure, workforce development, and emerging technology initiatives.

Gray succeeds Kenneth J. Nemeth, who will retire on July 31 after more than 54 years of distinguished service to SSEB and the Southern region. Please join us in congratulating Kimberly as she begins this new role.

After more than 54 years of service, Kenneth J. Nemeth will retire as Secretary and Executive Director of the Southern States Energy Board on July 31.

For more than five decades, Ken has dedicated his career to serving the Southern states—building lasting partnerships among governors, legislators, regulators, industry, academia, and federal agencies while advancing the mission of interstate cooperation.

Those who know Ken know there's much more to his legacy than the titles he's held. He's a gifted storyteller, a trusted mentor, an avid photographer, and a friend to generations of colleagues across the region. Whether with a story, a laugh, or a camera in hand, Ken has a remarkable way of bringing people together.

We are deeply grateful for his extraordinary leadership, his unwavering commitment to the states, and the countless lives he has touched.
