The State Health Benefit Plan will host “Caring for Others, Caring for Yourself,” a two-day virtual mental health conference this month to support and empower caregivers. The conference will connect caregivers with Georgia-based experts, explore practical tools, and discover valuable resources and benefits to support you at every state of your caregiving journey. The virtual event takes place August 26-27. Registration is required to attend.

DCH’s State Office of Rural Health (SORH) cut the ribbon to its new facility in Cordele, Georgia this week. The ribbon-cutting at the Frontage Road location marked another milestone in SORH’s 25 years of serving Georgia’s rural communities. Public officials, including President Pro Tem of the Senate Larry Walker, healthcare leaders, and supporters attended the momentous occasion, which was followed by an open house where guests had the opportunity to tour the new building and visit mobile health units from SORH grantees and partners.

Big news for Georgia's healthcare workforce!
The State Office of Rural Health Primary Care Office has been awarded more than $491,000 annually for the next three years through the State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). With the required state match, nearly $1 million each year will help recruit and retain primary care providers in Georgia's underserved communities. This funding is another step forward in strengthening Georgia's healthcare workforce and improving access to primary care. DCH congratulates Anthony Moss, executive director of the Healthcare Facility Regulation Division (left), and Jovon Woods, deputy director of the Office of Human Resources (right), for recently graduating from the Georgia 2 Gen Academy. During the academy’s nine-month leadership program, they worked in collaborative teams to develop capstone projects addressing real-world challenges facing Georgia families. The ceremony was held at the Loudermilk Conference Center in downtown Atlanta.

Project Milestone Achieved!
Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) has received its new mobile dental unit through the GREAT Health program, Georgia’s Rural Health Transformation Program.

“For years, I hoped to see a program like this become a reality. Thanks to this federal grant, we can finally bring specialized dental care directly to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Georgia. Seeing that vision become possible is incredibly rewarding because I know the difference this program will make for some of our state's most vulnerable residents. I am grateful for how our federal partners are committed to reducing transportation barriers and ensuring patients receive care from professionals experienced in meeting their unique needs.”
- Kim Cole, DMD, who has practiced dentistry for more than 36 years and is leading the initiative for DBHDD.
