On July 26, 1948, President Truman signed Executive Order 9981 stating, "There shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed forces without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin." leading to the integration of the Army and ended segregation of units.
Black Soldiers have served in the since the Revolutionary War and have been awarded more than 90 medals of honor. Their service is an integral part of the U.S. Army and recruiting tomorrow's next generation of Soldiers.
