I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Scott Shelton as DeKalb County’s new Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Scott brings more than two decades of information technology experience, including 16 years of dedicated service to DeKalb County. During his time as interim CIO, he helped modernize our technology infrastructure, strengthen cybersecurity, and enhance digital services across county government.

As we continue building a more innovative and responsive DeKalb, strong technology leadership is essential. Scott's expertise and commitment to innovation will help ensure our county remains secure, efficient, and prepared to meet the evolving needs of our employees and the residents we serve.

Coach Godfrey’s impact extended far beyond the football field. Through his leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to young people, he helped shape generations of students and athletes.

🍎📚 As a new school year begins, I want to wish every student, family, educator, and caregiver a safe, successful, and exciting year ahead.

It truly takes a community to help our young people learn, grow and reach their full potential. Thank you to every parent, grandparent, guardian, mentor, teacher and loved one who encourages our children each day.

As we welcome students back to the classroom, I also encourage everyone to help keep our roads safe by slowing down in school zones, watching for school buses and crosswalks, and looking out for one another.

To every student starting a new chapter this year: dream big, work hard and know that your DeKalb community is cheering you on every step of the way. Wishing you a year filled with learning, growth, and endless possibilities! 🎒✨

A new school year is upon us, and my team was proud to spend part of the weekend celebrating with families at the Back to School Bash hosted by Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur. 🎒✨

Members of my office enjoyed meeting residents, sharing information about county programs and services, and treating attendees to Italian ice on a warm summer day.

Thank you to the Beulah Missionary Baptist Church family for creating such a welcoming space to support students and families as they begin this new school year. As classrooms fill and backpacks are packed, I’m wishing every student, teacher, and family a year filled with learning, growth, and success. 📚🍎

Recently, I had the opportunity to fellowship with DeKalb County’s Eritrean American community and celebrate the rich culture, traditions, and contributions that help make our county such a vibrant place to live. 🇪🇷

As your DeKalb County CEO, I am committed to ensuring every resident has the opportunity to succeed, every business has the opportunity to grow, and every community has a voice in shaping our county’s future.

I am deeply grateful for the warm welcome and humbled by the beautiful traditional dress presented to me. It is a gift I will cherish and a reminder that when we take the time to listen, learn from one another, and build meaningful relationships, we strengthen the fabric of our entire county.🩵💚

I recently joined members of my Executive Cabinet for a visit to Big Green Egg's headquarters, where we met with CEO Dan Gertsacov and his leadership team to learn more about the company's remarkable story, its culture of innovation, and its continued investment in our community.

Strong partnerships between government and business are essential to building a stronger local economy. By listening, learning, and collaborating with the companies that choose to call DeKalb County home, we're creating an environment where businesses can grow, innovation can flourish, and residents can access more opportunities.

Thank you to the entire Big Green Egg team for the warm welcome, and for showing us why DeKalb County is a place where business and innovation thrive.

Homeownership is one of the biggest investments people will make, and they should understand how their community is governed.

That's why we hosted the HOA Bootcamp. HOA boards make decisions that affect property values, budgets, and quality of life for every family in the neighborhood. Those decisions are made by volunteers, neighbors giving their time, who deserve the tools to get it right.

Thank you to Attorney Marvin Arrington, Jr. and Corro'll Driskell of The HOA Alliance for bringing real expertise and real answers. And thank you to Tonza Clark, our Director of Code Compliance, for connecting county policy to what board members manage every day.

Together they covered the ground that matters budgets and fiduciary duty, open records, zoning and code enforcement, and the best practices that keep communities thriving.

Thank you to the Greater Towers Community Association for bringing neighbors together and creating space for meaningful dialogue.

There is so much we want to see in our communities and neighborhoods, and I firmly believe that many of the changes we hope for begin with us. One of the most important parts of public service is showing up and engaging directly with the people we serve. These are the conversations that help us better understand community needs and strengthen partnerships.
