II STEAMM | The home of Gwinnett NSBE Jr. A) EXPOSURE [STUDENT FOCUS]
We offer opportunities for students to participate in STEM excursions and
experiences. It is important for students to begin to see themselves in careers
that connect with their individual SPARK. These are scheduled quarterly
throughout the school year. B) ACCESS [STUDENT FOCUS]
Gwinnett NSBE Jr. Chapter provides access for our students to grow in the
knowledge of engineering careers and opportunities. The NSBE mission is "To
increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers, who excel
academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community". Our chapter meets throughout the school year from September through June. We provide activities to pique student interest in careers in Engineering and
other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields. Students may also
participate in STEM competitions such as:
NSBE TryMathALon (TMAL), FIRST LEGO League (FLL), KidWind,
Tests of Engineering, Aptitude, Math, Science (TEAMS)

- Objectives of the PreCollege Initiative (PCI) Program:
•To help students have a positive attitude towards academic excellence
•To stimulate enthusiasm about science, technology, engineering and mathematics
•To encourage 3rd–12th graders to pursue degrees in engineering and other technical fields
•To increase the number of African Americans attending and graduating from college
•To encourage and support parental commitment to children’s education
•To raise cultural awareness among students
