Alright, Alpharetta, as we head into Memorial Day weekend, a quick but important reminder for parents and riders about the safe and lawful operation of electric bikes and electric motorcycles throughout our community.

Electric motorcycles that do not meet Georgia roadway requirements are not legal for operation on public roads, streets, or sidewalks in Alpharetta. If a vehicle functions as a motorcycle, it is regulated as a motorcycle under state law, including licensing, registration, and equipment requirements. Many of the vehicles currently being operated locally do not meet these legal standards.

Law enforcement agencies across Georgia continue to report concerns involving unsafe operation of high-speed electric vehicles by young riders, including excessive speeds, failure to obey traffic laws, and dangerous riding behaviors that place riders and the public at risk.

Rules to remember in Georgia:
• Electric motorcycles and similar motorized vehicles are not permitted on sidewalks or roadways
• Riders operating legally classified e-bikes on roadways must ride as far to the right as safely practicable
• Class 3 e-bikes, capable of speeds up to 28 mph, require riders to be at least 15 years old
• Vehicles exceeding legal e-bike classifications may require registration, licensing, and additional safety compliance under Georgia law

The City’s concern is centered on safety. Many riders, particularly younger operators, may not fully understand the capabilities, legal classifications, or risks associated with these vehicles.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to carefully evaluate any electric vehicle before purchase to ensure it is lawful, appropriate, and safely operated within the community, helping keep Alpharetta’s streets safe, responsible, and welcoming for everyone.

Help Us Serve You Better

Starting tomorrow, The Alpharetta Police Department will introduce a new tool for the community to provide feedback to our department. We will start sending text message surveys after certain types of interactions with 911 and our department. Each survey will ask just a few questions about how satisfied you are and give you a chance to provide feedback.

Your feedback is important to us, and we want to know how we are doing. We also want to be able to provide positive feedback to officers and to know if something can be improved. Not everyone will receive a survey and residents that do not want to participate can simply not respond.

This cannot be used to report any type of emergency, criminal activity or make formal complaint with the department.

During National Police Week, we honor and remember the brave men and women across our nation who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others, as well as the law enforcement professionals who continue to serve and protect our communities each day with courage, compassion, and dedication.

At the Alpharetta Police Department, we are grateful for the support we receive from our community throughout the year. From simple acts of kindness to meaningful words of encouragement, the support shown to our officers and professional staff never goes unnoticed.

On behalf of Chief Trent Lindgren and the command staff of the Alpharetta Police Department, thank you to our nation, the State of Georgia, and especially the City of Alpharetta for standing beside the women and men who proudly serve this community.

Together, we remain committed to service, safety, partnership, and unity.

Building Better Service Together

The Alpharetta Police Department is excited to announce a new tool to keep citizens informed and collect feedback on non-life threatening calls for service. Soon, we will start sending text message surveys after certain types of interactions with 911 and our department. Each survey will ask just a few questions about how satisfied you are and give you the opportunity to provide feedback.

Your feedback is important to us, and we want to know how we are doing. We also want to provide the appropriate feedback to officers to best serve our community. Not everyone will receive a survey, and residents that do not want to participate can simply not respond.

This cannot be used to make formal complaints or report an emergency or criminal activity.

Recently, Officers Haywood, Garcia, and Venza graduated from the police academy. Today, they officially hit the streets for their first day serving the citizens of Alpharetta.

These new officers have answered the call to serve, protect, and build strong relationships within our community. Alpharetta is better, stronger, and safer today because of their commitment to public safety and service.

We ask our community to join us in welcoming and supporting these officers as they begin their law enforcement careers with the Alpharetta Police Department.

Welcome to the team, gentlemen. Your city is proud of you.

National Police Week is a reminder that the sacrifice of our fallen heroes is never forgotten. Last week, we were honored to see Fallen Alpharetta Police Sergeant Clinton A. Martin, Sr. added to the Georgia Public Safety Training Center Memorial Wall.

Clint’s legacy of service, strength, and dedication continues to live on through his family, friends, and the men and women who proudly serve this profession each day.

We honor Sergeant Martin, and all fallen officers, not just this week, but every week. 💙
