Over the past week, the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office had the pleasure to host the Department of Public Safety - Office of Public Safety Support for the 40-hour Peer Counselor Certification Course. This course is required for Public Safety personnel to maintain their State of Georgia Peer Counselor Certification, and be able to act as a bridge between the public safety personnel they serve and the appropriate resources that may be needed after they may experience one of the several critical incidents we respond to on a daily basis.

BCSO was fortunate to have seven attendees in the class from our own agency, including Major Jessica Pruett - E911, Captain Sara Dussault - E911, Sergeant Philip Abernathy - Criminal Investigation Division, Corporal Zack Lingerfelt - Uniform Patrol Division, Investigator Andrew Chandler - Criminal Investigation Division, ESD K9 Jeter - Criminal Investigation Division, Deputy Tyler Ingram - Training Division, and Deputy Riannon Gossett - Administration.

Congratulations to all attendees on the successful completion of this certification, and we look forward to seeing you make a difference within your agency and surrounding communities!

April 12th–18th, 2026, we proudly recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, a time dedicated to honoring the incredible professionals behind the headset.

Our telecommunicators are the unseen first responders, working long hours, under intense pressure, yet always remaining the calm in the chaos. They are the steady voice guiding callers through their worst moments, the critical link between the public and emergency services, and the lifeline that keeps our community safe.

Every call answered is a chance to make a difference, and our 911 dispatchers do just that, every single day.

During this week, we encourage everyone to take a moment to show appreciation to your dispatchers with the recognition they truly deserve. Whether it’s a simple thank you, a note of appreciation, or a kind gesture, your support means more than you know.

To our telecommunicators: thank you for your dedication, your professionalism, and your unwavering commitment to serving others. You are the calm in the storm.
