At the May 18, 2026 City Council meeting, the Civility Task Force and Mayor Fleeta Baggett presented their March 2026 Civility Award to Covington-Newton County 9-1-1 team member Tyler Silvey. The Civility Award recognizes employees who exemplify respect, kindness, professionalism, and a strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. Nominations are submitted by fellow employees.

Tyler was nominated for being an "outstanding employee who always seeks to give 110% to his job." Not only is Tyler active in recruitment and community outreach for the Covington-Newton County 911 team, he often volunteers without being asked including, most recently, at the Emergency Operations Center during the 2026 winter storms. Tyler handles very intense and challenging calls as a telecommunicator assigned to the Newton County Sheriff's Office, but remains a great resource for his peers, often stepping up to lead and assist before anyone asks for help. Having recently earned his APCO Communications Training Officer (CTO) certification, Tyler is set to mentor his first trainee next month therefore passing along his high standards to the next generation of dispatchers.

Congratulations, Tyler, and thank you for your positive attitude and dedication to your job as a . We are grateful that you are a member of the City of Covington family and the community's 911 team!

Happy Mother’s Day!! 💛💛💛

💛 Mother’s Day — Behind the Headset 💛

Today, we recognize the mothers who answer the call… even when it means missing moments of their own.

The moms working the console.
The moms holding it together after the hardest calls.
The moms who leave their families to help someone else’s in their worst moment.

In public safety communications, motherhood looks different.
It’s strength behind the headset.
It’s calm in chaos.
It’s love carried through a voice when someone needs it most.

But behind that strength — there’s a need we don’t talk about enough:
support, wellness, and recognition for the voices who carry so much.

That’s why Gold Line Support exists.

👉 This Mother’s Day, help us support the moms behind the headset.
Whether it’s sharing this message, nominating someone, or making a small donation — it all makes a difference.

Because when we support them, we strengthen the entire system.

To every mom in 9-1-1 — we see you. 💛

Before the lights. Before the sirens. There’s a voice.™

👉 Behind every 911 call… there’s someone holding it all together.

When you call 911…
you hear a calm voice on the other end.

But what you don’t see is everything happening behind the scenes.
The pressure.
The split-second decisions.

The emotional weight of call after call—some routine, some life-changing.

From guiding someone through an emergency…
to managing multiple crises at once…
these are the voices that help save lives every single day.

And yet, they’re often the ones we never think about.
This is a raw, real look into the world of 911 dispatchers—the strength it takes, the challenges they face, and why not everyone can do what they do.
