Calling all Emergency Communications Centers!

🚨 911 CHALLENGE: Can You Find Me? 🚨

Imagine you need to call 911. You’re scared, you’re in a hurry, and you’re trying to explain what’s happening.

Before we need to know WHAT happened, WHO is involved, or HOW serious it is… we need to know WHERE you are.

📍 Location comes FIRST.

Here’s today’s challenge:

What (or where??) is “showbiz.gadgetry.smiled” — and how could those three words help Fayette County 911 locate you in an emergency?

We’ll give you a hint: You won’t find it on Google Maps, and it’s not a street address.

These three words are part of a technology that can identify a precise location using a unique three-word combination. That can be incredibly helpful when you’re somewhere without a traditional address, like a park, trail, large event, parking lot, or just an unfamiliar location.

Thank you to Abigail, Crissy, and Isabel for setting up the 9-1-1 tent at last week's National Night Out event hosted by City of Fayetteville Public Safety.

You all did an awesome job! The photo ops were a huge hit, and the kids absolutely loved the gift bags. It was a great way to connect with our community, have some fun, and remind families about the important work our 9-1-1 professionals do every day.

Thank you for representing 9-1-1 and making the night special for so many families! 👏💙

Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) is transforming how communities connect with emergency services. Built to replace aging technology, NG911 allows 9-1-1 centers to receive not only voice calls, but also text messages, photos, videos, and other critical data when available.

This week, Crissy and Lauren had the opportunity to attend the Be The Difference Conference, where they gained new knowledge, fresh perspectives, and valuable skills to bring back to our team.

Professional development is about more than earning certificates. It's about continually improving the service we provide to our citizens. Every new idea, every best practice, and every lesson learned helps us better serve those who depend on us when they need help the most.

**Congratulations to Communications Officer Kenneth Beckstead!**

Last week we had the privilege of recognizing Communications Officer Kenneth Beckstead as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of Georgia Dispatcher of the Year. Stony Lohr of VFW Post 9949 in Peachtree City stopped by to formally present Kenneth with both the Post 9949 and State VFW Dispatcher of the Year awards.

Although the state awards ceremony was held earlier this year in Columbus, Kenneth was unfortunately unable to attend. We are grateful to VFW Post 9949 for taking the time to recognize him here at home.

The VFW Department of Georgia established its inaugural Dispatcher of the Year Award in 2023, and we are incredibly proud that a Fayette County 911 communications officer has earned this prestigious honor every year since its inception:

In observance of the Independence Day holiday, County offices will be closed on Friday, July 3.

While County offices will be closed, 9-1-1 services will remain fully staffed and available 24/7 throughout the holiday weekend. Our emergency communications professionals will be on duty around the clock, ready to answer calls for help and support our first responders.

As you celebrate with family and friends, we encourage everyone to enjoy the holiday safely and responsibly.
