The Elf Squad had a great afternoon sharing the word about Operation Christmas at the Trunk or Treat sponsored by Sheriff Tim Pounds and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (Georgia). Princesses, Marios, Wednesdays, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and more, we loved them all.

We would like to thank the Rotary Club for treating residents of Sanctuary Village and participants in our treatment programs to a barbecue lunch of ribs, chicken, pulled pork and all the trimmings last week. More thanks go to Sheriff Tim and Mrs. Joy Pounds for their visit. The Sheriff's support was essential to the construction of Sanctuary Village. "What you did for the least of these, you did for me."

Sanctuary Village would like to give a belated, but heartfelt THANK YOU to Kevin Livingston, Nancy Berry, and the Douglas County Master Gardeners for their Fall Spruce Up of the village, planting mums, Azaleas, putting out pine straw and mulch. A wise man once told us that "excellence honors God and inspires people." We believe that maintaining the property in good order sends a message to the residents they matter, which is a critical piece of anyone's recovery journey.

This past weekend we had Drug Court and Hope Court participants who worked very hard in hot weather cleaning units, pulling weeds, and installing skirting around the units. The skirting will help prevent cold weather bursting pipes and gives the units a finished, clean look. We would also like to thank Mike Carros and Chris Redmon of Carros Metal Concepts in Villa Rica without whom we could not be doing this.

This gentleman is Mr. Larry Toney, Jr. who is our main volunteer contractor. He's smiling because we are nearing completion of Phase Two of the Sanctuary Village project, which will add several more units to the 8 we completed long ago. Many people have lived at the village starting out unemployed, homeless, with substance abuse and mental health issues, and nearly all of them have succeeded. Much more news later, but we thought we would give the community a look inside and let you know we are ALMOST there!

Once again, LoveAtlanta of Passion City Church graced Sanctuary Village with blessing, prayer, and hard work in the Georgia sun putting down a pallet of mulch, pulling weeds, and planting our garden. Many thanks to Pastor Louie Giglio, a true Man of God, Bri, her Dad, and our Passion brothers and sisters!

Meeting today with Commissioner Christopher Nunn of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs in Atlanta to discuss potential solutions for homelessness in Douglas County. There are some good people in government trying to do the right thing and Commissioner Nunn is one of them.
