Change to Humanity

Change to Humanity Change to Humanity is helping the homeless and food-insecure communities in Atlanta to self-sustainability on the foundation of Help to be Helped.

Mission
To respond with love and commitment to the homeless and surrounding food-insecure communities seeking change and a life of equality, self - sustainability and dignity. Commitment
Engaging the homeless (including veterans, ex-offenders and community members struggling with food insecurity) to regain their lives as self-sustaining members of the community by offering a Help to be Helped prog

ram that nurtures the empowerment and healing of Self and provides the condition for successful living, thinking and social engagement. Vision&Action
We are very much aware of the challenges of homelessness reduction in Atlanta. We know homelessness can only be reduced when all steps from A to Z are taken and are leading to self-sustainability. Many shelters, churches and organizations have taken the first important steps by providing food, temporary shelter and temporary housing. Yet, there is more that has to be done. We recognize that personal healing and personal empowerment is a fundamental step towards self-sustainability before job training and job placement can be introduced. We also recognize the importance of getting to know and working with the community around us. Our work cannot be fruitful in a community that suffers. How can homelessness be reduced in an environment that induces homelessness? It is therefore imperative that we get to know our community and find solutions to the problems by working together with the people and for the people. Building relationship is key in order to lift-each other up and to help each other in the process to self-sustainability. How will we achieve that?

- Change to Humanity is working the homeless program and community project in tandem.
- We started a ‘Planting Seeds of Love' project in September 2016 with the People and for the People’ as a solution to the food desert problem in the community. Meanwhile, our answer to food- insecurity grew to serving food to 4 times a week. Tables are stacked with food from Wholefoods Market in different communities like Clarkston, GA for a refugee community, in Chamblee Tucker, and at the Boyce L Ansley School for children of families who have experienced homelessness. Food-insecurity more than doubled during the pandemic, people are seriously struggling and are needing our support. We are happy to report that we are feeding 240 families / week with the support of 3 Wholefoods Markets and occasional donations from AKEA, Atlanta. Every Friday we serve our homeless friends with food, clothes and hygiene products to cope as best as possible with COVID 19.
- In September of 2018 we started a sewing and crocheting circle to craft market bags with friends of the community of Bankhead and Clarkston to stay in alignment with our fundamental goals for people and environment: WE CARE, WE DO NOT TRASH. When the pandemic hit, we shifted from sewing market-backs to sewing face-masks for healthcare workers, our food- receivers and our homeless friends.

-We are also raising funds for re-purposing one of our donated properties next to Mozley Park for our COMMUNITY ART CENTER. To our donors and supporters:
Thank You for your open heart to give ans care. You are greatly appreciated. It truly is because of your support that we can do our mission. Let us build bridges from heart to heart, from community to community and extend it to the world to initiate the

How do we achieve that? - Change to Humanity is working the homeless program and community project in tandem. - We started a ‘Planting Seeds of Love' project in September 2016 with the People and for the People’ as a solution to the food desert problem in the community. Every Sunday tables are being set up and stacked with food from Wholefood Market at our Food - Sanctuary at 1009 Ada Ave. Our food offering reaches meanwhile people from other communities as well. - A Community Garden project at Joseph E Lowery Blvd will further support the community and food insecurity. It allows us to deepen relationship-building, engagement and trust. Everyone is welcome to participate in planting, tending and harvesting. - In September of 2018 we started a sewing circle with friends of the community of Bankhead and other communities. Our goal is to sew 1000 grocery-bags to stay in alignment with our fundamental goals for people and environment: WE CARE, WE DO NOT TRASH. In addition, the teaching of sewing will open up job opportunities. -- - We are also re-purposing a donated property next to Mozley Park for our COMMUNITY ART CENTER, as the 1st step towards self-sustainability for the homeless and community. We recognized and experienced that working in tandem with the community, valuable relationships are being build that create trust, peace, security and prosperity for all.
