A Gentle Ask From WildeWood Farm

Sunday left a very unexpected hole at WildeWood Farm.

With the unexpected passing of our beloved Titan, we have an 18-hand-sized gap in our jumping horse lesson program, and, more importantly, a place where a good horse could come and have a meaningful second chapter.

So, I’m putting out a gentle feeler to all of you who know horses and know people who love them.

We are looking for a kind, sound, experienced horse who enjoys his or her job and might be ready for a change (or has an issue that I might be able to fix).

Perhaps an older horse who needs to step down from a more demanding jumping career.
Perhaps a horse whose young rider is heading off to college.

Perhaps a horse who has done his competitive job and is looking for something quieter.

Perhaps simply a horse who needs a job and would enjoy being part of a herd, teaching children, and being loved.

Our jumping is modest, we don’t jump over 2 feet, but we do need a horse who is comfortable jumping small fences and is safe, dependable and willing.

A donation would be wonderful (I can offer a tax receipt). A care lease would also be considered.

We are not looking for a perfect show horse. We are looking for a good horse with a good heart who might enjoy becoming a teacher.

Titan leaves some very big shoes to fill.

If someone comes to mind, please send them this post or have them reach out to me. Sometimes the horse who needs a new job and the program that needs a horse simply need someone to connect the two.

A Kingdom of Animals

There are farms where you come to see the horses.

And then there are farms where you come to discover an entire kingdom.

At WildeWood Farm, the kingdom begins with the noble horses.

They are usually the first ones to greet you—grazing peacefully in the pastures, stretching their legs, or simply enjoying another ordinary, beautiful day.

The young ones may be playing or napping in the sunshine, depending on their mood. The geldings might have invented a spirited game of tag that nobody else quite understands. And across the road, beneath the sprawling branches of the old trees, the mares are perfectly content to eat, nap, and watch the world go by.

Keep driving slowly up the driveway.

You’ll soon meet the farm’s barking sentinels.

Our dogs have appointed themselves official greeters, and they take their job very seriously. They may stand right in the middle of the driveway, barking loudly to announce that someone important has arrived.

Don’t stop. Just keep coming slowly.

They’ll move… probably!

There may be a cars in the driveway, too. This is a working farm, after all, not a museum. There is always something going on.

And then you’ll notice the chickens.

Oh, the chickens!

Big ones, little ones, fluffy ones, fancy ones, and ordinary ones—all wandering about as though they own the place. There will be clucking and scratching and crowing. There may be a little romance happening behind the barn, and if the season is right, you may even discover a mama hen proudly leading a trail of tiny, fuzzy chicks.

And if you wander down by Dr. Potter’s Harness Barn, the kingdom grows even larger.

There you may find a whole cast of characters:

Cows.
Pigs.
Goats.
Sheep.

Each with their own voices, habits, friendships, and personalities.

Some will come running to see you.

Some will pretend they haven’t noticed you.

And some will be absolutely certain that you have arrived specifically to bring them something delicious.

Because this isn’t simply a farm filled with animals.

It is their home.

A place where horses can be horses, chickens can scratch in the dirt, dogs can patrol the driveway, goats can be mischievous, sheep can graze, cows can lounge beneath the trees, and pigs can be gloriously, unapologetically piggy.

And somehow, in caring for all of them, this place has become home to us, too.

A kingdom for the animals.

A home for our family.

And a little piece of the kingdom that we are delighted to share with yours.

Welcome to WildeWood Farm.

Come slowly. Look closely. Listen carefully.

What You’ll See When You Come to WildeWood Farm

When you first arrive at WildeWood Farm, you’ll see a huge, silvery feed silo, painted with our farm name and logo, standing beside the paved driveway.

But that driveway is more than just a way to get to the barn.

It is the gateway to the magic of the farm.

As you turn onto the drive, take a breath and let the stress of the outside world begin to slip away. The road winds through a tunnel of trees, where the branches reach across the driveway and hold hands overhead.

Keep coming.

The road stretches down a long, steep hill, and through the trees you’ll begin to catch glimpses of deep green pastures. You’ll cross the babbling stream and continue upward, passing the arena where, every day, horses teach people some of the most profound lessons of life;
about patience, courage, leadership, trust, responsibility, and partnership.

Keep driving.

You may find yourself slowing down as you pass the horses. Some will be peacefully grazing. Others may be running, playing, or simply standing together enjoying being horses.

And then you’ll see the cheerfully red-painted barns.

As you arrive, take a moment to look back across the farm. The land gently curves and rolls away behind you, with pastures, trees, horses, and sky all woven together into the landscape.

And then comes the welcoming committee.

The dogs.

They will come running to greet you, tails wagging furiously and voices announcing your arrival to everyone within earshot. They feel it is their important responsibility to make absolutely certain that the entire farm knows someone has arrived!

You’ll probably get down to their level, scratch some ears, pet some wagging tails, and receive a few of those wonderful canine smiles.

And somewhere from the barn, you’ll hear a friendly voice call out,

“Come on in!”

And that’s when you know.

Take another breath.

You have arrived.

Not just at a farm.

You’ve arrived at WildeWood Farm, a place where horses teach, children grow, families make memories, and the ordinary moments of farm life have a way of becoming extraordinary.

Everyone loves the idea of a farm—the animals, the fresh air, the peaceful setting. But behind that beauty is a tremendous amount of work that most people never see.

Farms run every single day. There are no days off from feeding, watering, cleaning, maintaining fences, caring for animals, fixing equipment, managing land, and keeping everything safe and functional. On top of that, there are very real costs—feed, hay, vet bills, animal care, property maintenance, taxes, and insurance. It adds up quickly.

The good news? You don’t have to own a farm to support one. There are simple, meaningful ways you can help:
Share, share, share
Every time you see a post about lessons, camps, birthday parties, or events—share it. That one click helps farms reach new families more than you realize.

Post in local and mom groups

Farm owners aren’t allowed to promote in these groups unless they pay to advertise. But you can. Your recommendation carries weight and helps connect others to the farm.

Take photos and tag the farm.

When you’re visiting, snap a few pictures and share them. Tag the farm so others can see the experience through your eyes.

Spread the word

By a huge demand, we are going to offer 3 months starting in September of our hugely popular Little Rider Pony Pals class.
🐴 Little Rider Pony Pals is Back This Fall! 🐴

After two wonderful months of Little Rider Pony Pals this past spring, we're excited to announce three new sessions this fall!

Designed especially for children ages 2–4, this program is a gentle introduction to horses that focuses on confidence, safety, familiarity, and fun.

This is not a riding lesson program. Instead, it is an opportunity for young children to build comfort around horses while learning through hands-on experiences and age-appropriate activities. Parent participation is required.

Each one-hour class includes:

🐴 Meeting and interacting with a calm pony
🪮 Grooming and hands-on horse care
🚶 Leading a pony with assistance
❤️ Learning safe and gentle behavior around animals
🐎 Short pony rides or sit-on experiences
🎨 Games, activities, and themed adventures
⭐ Lots of encouragement and confidence-building

Consistency is important for young children, so each class follows a familiar routine that helps little ones feel secure and successful.

One of the questions we get asked constantly during the summer is:

“Should my child start with lessons or horse camp?”

In my experience, I strongly prefer beginners start with camp whenever possible. 💛

Here's why:

Horse camp gives us four full hours each day to teach, practice, and build confidence. Riders receive far more one-on-one help from counselors and instructors, more hands-on horse time, and far more repetition than they would in a traditional weekly lesson.

IOne week of horse camp contains the equivalent of about five weeks of lessons—and often even more because the learning is cumulative each day instead of being spread out over months.

Every rider is carefully paired with a safe, well-trained horse appropriate for their level, size, and personality. We focus heavily on:

🐴 Safety
🐴 Correct position
🐴 Horsemanship
🐴 Confidence
🐴 Kind, respectful communication with the horse

One thing that makes our camp different is that it is not a fluffy, craft-based camp where horses are simply the theme.

This is horse immersion.

Children ride every day. They learn to groom, tack up, care for their horses, and understand how horses think and communicate. They spend their days surrounded by horses, horse people, and real horsemanship.

We don't teach tricks, shortcuts, or gimmicks.

We teach children how to become riders.

The goal is not simply to sit on a horse. The goal is to understand one.

Camp is also an incredible value. Camp is $100 per day, while individual lessons are $80 each on a pay-as-you-go basis. The amount of learning, horse exposure, and confidence-building children gain during camp is tremendous.

There is something powerful about spending full days immersed in horses, animals, nature, friendships, and hands-on learning. Riders progress quickly because they are living it—not just visiting it once a week.

Why Camp at WildeWood Farm?

Summer camp is more than just filling a few hours in the day—it’s about giving children an experience they’ll remember long after summer ends.

At WildeWood Farm, camp is designed to be just that.
This year marks our 30th year of summer camp, and over the years we’ve had the privilege of watching children grow into confident riders, responsible young adults, and even return later with families of their own.

We offer three types of camp to fit every interest:
Horse Camp — for those who want to ride and learn horsemanship - get your own horse for the week
Farm Adventure Camp — for kids who love animals and hands-on farm life
Hybrid Camp — pick your own adventure
Each day runs 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM, giving kids a full, active morning while avoiding the heat of the afternoon. And if your child comes home tired… that’s a good sign It means they’ve been moving, learning, and fully engaged.

With nearly 40 acres of open land, kids have room to explore, breathe, and experience nature in a way that’s hard to find.
Real farm life

There’s nothing quite like watching baby animals play—and yes, there are plenty of those this time of year
