🌅 I didn't realize how common this misconception was: Changing the clock doesn't magically create more daylight. We get the exact same amount of sun on any given winter day, Daylight Saving Time or not.

This upcoming week, the U.S. House is taking up permanent daylight saving time, which just takes an hour of light from the morning and glues it onto the evening.

Because Atlanta sits so far west in the Eastern Time Zone, our winter sunrises are already a bit late. Under permanent DST, the sun wouldn't rise until 8:30 AM at the latest, in December and January. WITH DST (currently), it rises around 7:30 AM, at the latest.

On the flip side, instead of the sun setting at 5:30 PM in the dead of winter, it wouldn't set until around 6:30 PM. You'd actually have a little bit of twilight after the workday ends.

If the Sunshine Protection Act passes the House, it moves onto the Senate (which passes a version of this bill in 2022). If it clears the Senate, it heads to President Trump, who has already voiced support for this.

Notably, Georgia Reps. Rich McCormick, Buddy Carter, and Barry Loudermilk are co-sponsoring this bill.

-M7.2 and M7.5 in Venezuela.
-M6.9 near the coast of Japan.

Big news, the two large wildfires in South Georgia are now both 100% contained. Thank you first responders!

The Pineland Rd. fire burned over 32,000 acres, the Hwy 82 fire burned over 22,000 acres.
