This week, I want to take a little different approach with my mayor’s weekly update.

Since becoming your mayor in March, I have had the opportunity to work closely with the people who keep our city moving every day and I believe it is time that I publicly recognize some of those people and give them credit they deserve.

Today, I want to recognize our city administration team.

First, Sherry Taylor, our city clerk. Sherry carries a incredible amount of responsibility for this city. She deals with records, ordinances, meetings, citizens, state requirements and countless details that most people never see. Her knowledge and dedication are extremely valuable to Buchanan.

Next is Maizie Glore, our deputy clerk, Maizie has become my go-to person when I need answers about ordinances, procedures, city business or just about anything that comes across my desk. She is dependable, willing to research an issue, and always ready to help find the right answer I appreciate her more than she probably realizes.

I also want to recognize Melanie Mastrangelo, our finance manager. Managing a municipality’s finances is a tremendous responsibility. Every dollar matters, and Melanie works behind the scenes to help make sure Buchanan’s financial affairs are handled properly and responsibly.

And finally, Shyanne Streetman, our public relations professional. Shyanne helps tell Buchanan’s story. From communicating city information to our citizens to helping showcase the positive things happening in our community, she plays an important role in keeping Buchanan connected.

These four people are more than employees. They are people who have chosen to serve Buchanan.
Municipal government is not always the highest paying career path. Many people who work for small cities do it because they believe in their community and take pride in serving their neighbors and I see that dedication firsthand.

As your mayor, I am incredibly fortunate to have people around me who care about Buchanan ad who work hard every day to make our city better.

So, Sherry, Maizie, Melanie and Shyanne thank you.

Thank you for your dedication. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for the things you do that most citizens never see.

And to the citizens of Buchanan, I hope when you see these four ladies, you will take a moment to thank them for what they do.
We are fortunate to have them serving our city

Last week, Strong House spent the day learning how the City of Buchanan operates! The group started with a visit to Public Works, followed by a tour of the sewer plant. They then visited City Hall, where they toured the Police Department and heard from Mayor Steve Holcombe about his role and how the city operates. Council Member Matt Cook also shared about his responsibilities on the City Council. The day wrapped up with a tour of the historic courthouse!

A huge thank you to the Buchanan Women’s Club for serving delicious ice cream to everyone! 🍦 We appreciate your support in making Strong House day such a great experience!
