The Georgia Commission on Women is a state commission representing the women of Georgia. The fifteen members of the GCW are appointed by the governor, lieutenant governor, and the speaker of the House, and we come from every corner of the state. Our mission is to advocate for Georgia women, to inform government officials of issues affecting women, and to celebrate the accomplishments of women in o

Karla Jacobs has been a commissioner with the Georgia Commission on Women for 14 years β€” and in that time, she's helped pass landmark legislation protecting human trafficking victims, trained hotels across Georgia to recognize and respond to trafficking, and is now leading efforts to prepare Atlanta-area hotels ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

In this Day in the Life profile, Karla talks about her professional journey, why having a commission dedicated to women's issues matters, and what she wants every woman in Georgia to know about the power they have to change their communities.
