We had a wonderful time last Friday exploring Red's Farm Preserve in Ormewood Park!

Brian “Farmer Red” Harrison stewarded the five-acre space as farmland for 30 years, and it served as a community farm for 16 years. He passed away in 2022, and his family sold the land to become a public park, which officially opened last year. Urban Farm in Ormewood, the nonprofit that oversees the Preserve, gave us a tour around the community garden plots, hidden paths, a meandering creek, mushroom-inoculated logs and more.

We also learned more about the future of Red's Farm. Over the past year, Park Pride's Visioning team has worked with Ormewood Park residents to create an updated design as it transitions into a public park. The Vision Plan features areas for play using natural materials, places to gather, accessible pathways, and more.

Huff Linear Green has come alive thanks to the vision and leadership of Upper Westside ATL and Atlanta Department of Watershed Management!

Before this project, this corner was underutilized, fenced off, and largely inaccessible to the public. Now, the property has been reimagined as a two-acre linear park that invites folks to pause, gather, and play through its turf-covered mounds, bocce ball court, public art and ample seating. And don't forget the incredible shade provided by the mature tree canopy!

Together, these improvements supported by a Park Pride grant enhance the character of this gateway to Atlanta's Upper Westside! Thank you to the Friends of Atlanta Waterworks for turning this space into a true community amenity. Be sure to check it out!

Park Pride has two open positions — Community Building Associate and Volunteer Manager! ✨

The Community Building Associate will help cultivate community park stewardship in unincorporated DeKalb County. The Volunteer Manager will engage civic and corporate volunteers alongside Friends of the Park groups to tackle park improvement projects.

We had an incredible time yesterday evening at our Friends of the Park Social!

One of the best parts of the evening was seeing so many people who care deeply about their parks sharing ideas, building new relationships, and celebrating the incredible work happening across our communities. That passion and commitment are what make this network so special, and we’re excited about what we can accomplish together.
