Tornado Watch Issued for Lapeer County
The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch #113, which is in effect until 4:00 AM EDT Wednesday for Lapeer County and much of southeast Michigan.
What this means:
A Tornado Watch indicates that weather conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. While a tornado may not occur, it is important to stay alert and be prepared to take action if a Tornado Warning is issued.
Counties included in this watch:
Bay, Genesee, Huron, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Midland, Monroe, Oakland, Saginaw, Sanilac, Shiawassee, St. Clair, Tuscola, Washtenaw, and Wayne.
Potential hazards include:
• Tornadoes
• Damaging wind gusts
• Large hail
• Heavy rainfall and frequent lightning
Safety reminders:
• Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially while sleeping.
• Identify your safe place now, such as a basement or an interior room on the lowest level of your home.
• Keep cell phones charged and enable emergency alerts.
• If a Tornado Warning is issued, seek shelter immediately.
• Stay away from windows and exterior walls.
