Have a long, happy, and healthy retirement Chief. Thank you for your service. It has been a pleasure working with you.

Today, the Auburn Fire Department recognizes the retirement of Assistant Chief Ed Sherman as he completes his final shift after nearly 31 years of dedicated service to the City of Auburn and our community.

Assistant Chief Sherman was hired on July 31, 1995, beginning a career commitment to the fire service and the Auburn community. On September 18, 2000, he was promoted to Lieutenant of C Platoon Engine Company 4, where he quickly established himself as a respected leader and mentor.

One of the defining moments of his career came on March 17, 2003, during a structure fire on Easterly Avenue. Through courageous and decisive actions, then Lieutenant Sherman, along with three fellow firefighters and 2 ambulance personnel, were instrumental in rescuing an unconscious occupant from the fire. In recognition of those heroic actions, he was presented with the Fire Department Department Medal of Valor on October 3, 2003.

Throughout his career, Assistant Chief Sherman continued to rise through the ranks of the department:

• Promoted to Captain of B Platoon Engine Company 2 on August 13, 2006
• Re-Assigned to Rescue Company Captain on March 31, 2008
• Returned to Engine Company 2 Captain on July 22, 2008
• Transferred to Captain of Engine Company 3 on June 26, 2010
• Promoted to Assistant Chief on August 28, 2012

Over the course of nearly three decades, Assistant Chief Sherman has dedicated himself to protecting the citizens of Auburn, serving alongside generations of firefighters, and helping shape the future of the department through his leadership, experience, and unwavering dedication.

As he completes his final shift today, the members of the Auburn Fire Department thank Assistant Chief Ed Sherman for his years of service, sacrifice, and commitment to this department and community.

Please join us in congratulating Assistant Chief Sherman on his well-earned retirement and wishing him many years of health, happiness, and time with family and friends.
