Producing Practical and Useful Cattle
Tue, Aug 11, 2026
10:00AM-12:00PM
Wiese and Sons Herefords
31554 Delta Avenue,
Manning, Iowa 51455

Event Overview
The Wiese family bought their first Hereford cattle in 1912. Now Shayne and Chance are the fifth generation raising breeding stock on their farm near Manning, Iowa. Their aim is to produce cattle with “practical and fundamental” traits that will do well in commercial production. But at the same time, they see the cattle as a tool to better the land for the next five generations. Come learn how the Wiese’s use annual forages as pasture relief and soil health. They’ll also share some basic cattle handling techniques and what to look for in the epigenetics of good production cows.

We hope to see you there!

We all have a role to play in improving Iowa's water quality. Farmers and landowners in all 99 counties across the state can sign up now for the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship’s cover crop cost-share program. Cover crops help keep Iowa’s rich soil and nutrients in fields, and out of waterways. Iowa farmers planted nearly 4 million acres of cover crops last year. Let’s keep that number growing! Enroll at your local USDA Service Center. For more information, visit CleanWaterIowa.org.

Visit Our Booth at the Audubon County Fair!
Guess who's back, back again. Yes, it's us!

We invite you to stop by and explore our booth at the Audubon County Fairgrounds, located in the AgriHall building. Get inside out of the heat for a little bit.🥵

We are excited to announce a special giveaway for those 20 and older this year. This free style rocker chair is calling your name! To win, simply fill out the slip of paper placed next to the glass jar at our booth and toss it in. We will be drawing a winner on Sunday at noon!🤩

For our younger guests, ages 14 and under, we feature the ever-popular candy jar contest. Kids can take part in this enjoyable activity and try their luck at winning the candy jar. The first jar will go out Thursday morning around 8AM. So keep your eyes peeled👀

In addition to the prize giveaways, we have blue plastic bags to carry around all of your goodies and pens for you to take home. You can also pick up a copy of our annual report for more information about our organization. Throughout the day, Kelli or one of the commissioners will be present at the booth periodically. We encourage you to stop by and say hello!👋

Hope everyone has a fun and safe fair week! 🎡
