Taxpayers first means offering Texans a seat at the table.

"Fair tax policy starts with an accurate picture of what is happening in the marketplace, not with assumptions made by bureaucrats in Austin," explains Comptroller Don Huffines. This week he met with online marketplace sellers, restaurant owners and physicians to hear how their businesses are affected by Texas' controversial definition of the data processing services tax, reiterating his commitment to quickly "solve problems and fix what is broken" in Texas tax administration.

Texas Comptroller Don Huffines today announced the most significant reform of Texas tax administration in decades: the Taxpayer First Project.

The initiative is focused on delivering fairness, transparency and respect for all Texas taxpayers and will reform confusing rules, delayed refunds and unfair, retroactive policy changes.

School choice is now a reality for more Texas families than ever.

In the coming school year, more than 101k students will have access to educational support that can meet their unique needs. Families across the state have helped make Texas Education Freedom Accounts the first program of its kind to reach a milestone like this in its first year.

👀 And the record isn't quite set. More awards are expected for the 2026-27 school year.
