Thoughts for the day…❤️

✨Behind every first responder is a family learning to navigate a life that looks a little different.✨

They adjust.
They adapt.
They make the most of the time they have together.
They cheer them on, hold down the fort, and keep showing up.

If life has been throwing you curveball after curveball lately, remember that you were never meant to navigate every season alone.

We never really know what someone is carrying behind the scenes.

Check on your people.
Remind them they’re not alone. ❤️

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of retired Fire Specialist Reggie Tait.
Reggie was truly one of the good ones—always carrying a great smile and served as a proud, dedicated member of our Honor Guard. He represented the Austin Fire Department with immense dignity and unwavering commitment throughout his career.
Tragically, Reggie lost his courageous battle with cancer. No one who runs toward the danger should ever have to face this kind of battle in the dark. It breaks our hearts to watch our firefighters endure the occupational hazards of a job that demands so much of them physically, long after the smoke clears. We fiercely wish a world for our first responders where occupational cancer is a thing of the past, and we will continue to advocate, support, and fight for the health and safety of every member of our fire family.
Please keep his family and our entire fire family in your thoughts and prayers.
🖤❤️ Rest in Peace, Reggie ❤️🖤

Honoring a Life of Service, Courage, and Sacrifice.

Harold Kelly, a nearly 20-year veteran of the Austin Fire Department and a cherished member of our fire family.
Harold dedicated his life to serving this city and the people around him. Even while facing an unimaginable battle with ALS, he continued to show the same courage, strength, and heart that defined his fire service career. From his first symptoms in 2024 to seeking treatment in Canada earlier this year, Harold fought with everything he had.
Over the past several days, many firefighters had the opportunity to sit beside Harold, share stories, laugh, reflect, and remind him just how much he meant to all of us. He remained surrounded by the love of his family, friends, and his firefighter family until the very end.
Lieutenant Kelly leaves behind his wife, Melanie, and his sons, Colton and Christian. Our hearts are with them as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
Harold’s impact on this department will not be forgotten. His dedication to the job, his strength during adversity, and the bond he shared with his crews in Prevention and Battalion 2 will continue to live on through all of us.
Please keep the Kelly family, Harold’s friends, and all those who loved him in your thoughts during this difficult time.
Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here.
