Avon FD is very proud tonight, as 2nd Assistant Chief Brian Strozewski, Avon PD officer Ian Hall, and others were honored at tonight's Amerks game for their role in rescuing our colleague during a recent fire. Several of our members were at the game to represent the department. We cannot be more proud of our members, our team, and the village residents who support us.

As an update, our department member who was injured during the fire is recovering well at the hospital. We are happy he's getting better, and continuing to wish him a speedy recovery.

At 5:45pm Sunday evening, Avon FD was alerted to a housefire on South Ave in the village. To our shock, it was the home of one of our members. Crews responded as fast as possible and the fire was extinguished, but only after substantial damage to the home. One of the homeowners was injured and is currently in the hospital.

Avon FD needs to thank the following agencies for their prompt support: East Avon Fire Department, Caledonia Fire Department, Livingston County EMS, Avon Police Department, Livingston County Sheriff's Office, Office of Emergency Management - Livingston County, NY, and CHS. Thanks also to Geneseo NY Fire Department for filling in.

Late Sunday night into early morning, Avon FD was called to assist mutual aid to York for a barn fire. Our members established a water supply and assisted with fire suppression for nearly 5 hours in -3 degree temperatures.

No one was injured, however, much of Avon's large diameter hose supply was frozen and ruined during the night's activities.

Now that the snow is piling up, be sure to take a few minutes to clear a hydrant if it's in your front yard. If a fire does happen, seconds matter. And having a cleared out hydrant helps us out a lot!

Yesterday, Avon FD responded to a garbage truck fire in the Kraft Foods lot. Luckily, the truck was able to move away from any building structures. Good work, team!
