Avondale City Council proclaimed October 4–10, 2026, as Fire Prevention Week—a time to celebrate community efforts that make Avondale safer, including the efforts of Avondale Fire & Medical distributing more than 3,000 smoke alarms to local residents over last two and half years.
This year’s theme, “Safe Charging Is a Charge into Fire Safety™,” highlights the importance of safely charging lithium-ion battery-powered devices:
🔌 Use the manufacturer’s charger or an approved replacement.
📛Charge devices on a hard, flat surface—never on beds, couches, or under pillows.
⏳Unplug devices when they are fully charged.
🔋Stop using batteries that are hot, swollen, leaking, damaged, or making unusual sounds.
🔋Properly dispose of lithium-ion batteries at designated collection sites to help prevent fire hazards.
🚯Never place batteries in curbside trash or recycling containers.
