The coop is officially back in session.

Tomorrow night’s school board gathering promises enough feathers and fog to keep all of us occupied. First up in the nest: the Grade School Principal is simultaneously slated to receive tenure and have their resignation accepted in the very same meeting. Efficient? Curious?

Meanwhile, the Superintendent is now reportedly engaged to the COO of Suffolk Bus Transportation — yes, the district’s transportation vendor of record and, according to the agenda, donor of a $2,000 contribution to the district. Nothing says “community partnership” quite like an ethical blurred line.

And finally, for those wishing to peck fully, Thursday brings a Meet the Candidates evening for the open school board seats. Come for the civics, stay for the clacking.

There is much a-brewing in our tiny village, lots of good and a smidge of not-so-good.

Twaddle along, keep clacking and for goodness sakes shine a light on the truths we need to share.

THIS is one to watch. The broader message here is about a deep need for continuous communication, on an ongoing basis, to the entire coop about policies, education and a commitment to keeping chicks safe across the district.

Fluff our feathers—we’re delighted that our call-outs have inspired some roosters and hens to send in your own… complete with creative interpretations.

This week’s egg? A beautifully vague communiqué from the school district about lead in the water. But rest easy—it’s all “handled.” A few spigots turned off, refill stations limited, and some helpful little sink-side signs warning that the water might be a touch… heavy.

And yes, there’s a plan. No, you can’t see it. But you CAN go to the website, as detailed in the letter, where there is absolutely no information on the topic. Or you can call the facilities administrator and if you do, we'd love to hear how it goes.

Perhaps our Long Island Water King, Trustee Szabo, can assist?

Sometimes, we like to take a step back. A perch from afar if you may, to look at reporting of events through a different lens.
Yet even if we were in California, we cannot begin to understand why this article would omit the fact that the newest trustee voted against the budget and also announced a new definition of what it means to “hold the line” on taxes.
Chickens, please help us. Were you there? Did you hear something else? Are our bird ears clogged?
We will add that the Better Babylon Party and the Village are major funders of this publication calling into question journalistic integrity.

Babylon Village treasurer Andrew Reichel presented the proposed 2026-27 budget at an April 6 public hearing, outlining a 5.02 percent increase over the current spending plan and detailing the key cost drivers behind the proposal.
