Conversations with people who disagree with you are hard in any field, especially in discussions about abortion. Knowing how to navigate and respond with clarifying questions and seeking to truly understand where your conversation partner is coming from is a game changer! Don’t automatically assume you know what they’re going to say, instead: listen and respond to what they’re actually concerned about. The truth and the science are on the pro-life side. We don’t need to resort to straw manning when we know the truth. If you want to learn more about how to engage in better communication with pro-choice people, be on the lookout for our next Advocacy Training class!

Tried some new things today!

A bit of “get ready with me”,
a 6x speed video,
a voice over and in video audio compilation?!
Wow!!

It was great to get in front of FPA today and to leave behind some encouraging messages for the women who might be considering abortion. Help and hope ARE available 24/7 at 1-877-467-3463 (1-877-HOPE-4-ME).

Empathy is a beautiful thing, but even a good thing can become unhealthy when it is misplaced or taken too far.

Toxic empathy happens when our desire to understand someone's pain causes us to minimize the pain they caused, excuse harmful behavior, abandon truth, or take responsibility for emotions that aren't ours to carry.

Here are 4 signs of toxic levels of empathy:

1. You have more empathy for the perpetrator than the victim.
-Understanding why someone committed a crime does not mean they didn't commit a crime. Explanation is not justification.

2. You believe compassion means removing consequences.
-Someone can be hurting and is still responsible for how they treat other people.

3. You prioritize feelings over truth.
-We can validate that someone's feelings are real without assuming that every conclusion they reach from those feelings is true.

4. You feel responsible for everyone else's emotions.
-Compassion doesn't mean you have to fix everyone's pain, avoid every difficult conversation, or sacrifice healthy boundaries to keep someone else comfortable.

Empathy should help us understand people, not prevent us from seeing clearly.

We can have compassion for someone's story AND still hold them accountable for their choices. We can acknowledge someone's pain AND acknowledge the pain they've caused. We can love people deeply AND still tell the truth.

That's not a lack of empathy. That's empathy guided by truth and wisdom.

A few weeks ago Executive Director Rachel Morales spoke about Right to Life to the Kern High School District Board of Trustees. RTLKC has been creating a resource for students called “Embryology & Fetal Development: A basic guide to prenatal human development.” This educational resource is designed to help students understand what is scientifically happening from fertilization through birth. Embryology is a specialized branch of biology that is often not accessible to students until college so this resource would improve the scientific literacy of every student it reaches! Please join us in encouraging the KHSD board to hear more about and eventually adopt this resource for our students and teachers!

I had scheduled this post for a future date, but with what happened at the football game at Independence HS last night, I think we need this now! With a culture that seems to be normalizing and even celebrating death more and more, the children of our nation need prayers of protection more and more as well. Join us in praying for the Lord’s watchful eyes over these precious little souls.
