"During a single year, an estimated 2.1 million youth under the age of 18 are arrested in the United States" If this bothers you, join Hand in Hand today!

10/17/2017

"Youth crime has also been going down for many years. The number of adults arrested in 2009 and in 2000 decreased 1%, whereas the number of juveniles arrested dropped a staggering 20% during that same time frame."

Help us lower that number even more than volunteering with us!

Please share with those who are without stable housing and need assistance.

Kalief Browder

Why support Hand in Hand? Because Kalief Browder is not the first child to suffer unreversible damage at the hands of the adult criminal justice system and until we stop charging children as adults he will not be the last. #sayhisname #beapartothechange

Kalief Browder was an African American male who was arrested at the age of 16 for allegedly stealing a backpack. He was imprisoned for three years on Rikers Island without trial and spent most of this time in solitary confinement. Two years after his release, Browder died by su***de. His case is cited by activists who call for the reform of the New York City criminal justice system and is the subject of a six-part docuseries on Spike and Netflix entitled TIME: The Kalief Browder Story.

Do you love partnering with young people? Would you to empower youth to discover their inner potential? If so come volunteer with Hand in Hand.

African American youth with similar criminal records as their White counterparts are six times more likely to be incarcerated for their crimes as opposed to receiving probation like their White counterparts (Arya, & Augarten, 2008; Poe-Yamagata & Jones, 2007). Some people kneel to fight this injustice. Some people boycott to fight this injustice. Join us by volunteering with Hand in Hand to fight this injustice! We are still looking for volunteers.

A student arrested in school is twice as likely not to graduate and four times as likely if he or she appears in court (Teske and Huff, 2011). Let's end the school to prison pipeline. We are looking for:

Board members
Volunteers
Graphic design artists

Hand In Hand is still looking for volunteers to partner with us to reduce recidivism and empower our community. #bethechange

"200,000 youth are charged as adults in the United States each year (Minton, 2011). Due to inequities in the legal system, African American juveniles make up 62% of the youth prosecuted in the criminal justice system annually, despite only accounting for 17% of the overall youth population (Arya & Augarten, 2008)." If this statistic bothers you, Hand in Hand needs your help! We are looking for volunteers to help with:

Web Design
Graphic Design
Program Development
Board Membership

Please send a message if you are interested!
