Today, we’re keeping two Wayne County Sheriff deputies in our thoughts after they were assaulted in the line of duty.

Every day, law enforcement officers put themselves in harm’s way, and today serves as another reminder of the risks that come with this profession.

From all of us at the Norton Police Department, we wish them a full and speedy recovery. Stay strong.

As National Police Week begins, we pause to honor the officers who serve with courage and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Here in Norton, we especially remember Officer Dallas Jackson, who died in the line of duty on October 25, 1973, after suffering a heart attack while responding to an emergency call involving an injured child. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

To all officers, past and present, and the families who stand beside them, thank you for your service, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting others.

Respect. Honor. Remember. 🇺🇸

Today, we celebrate the moms who give so much of themselves every single day.

We also take a moment to remember the mothers who are no longer with us. For many, Mother’s Day carries both love and loss, and we keep those families in our thoughts today.

From all of us at the Norton Police Department, Happy Mother’s Day to every mom, grandmother, stepmom, foster mom, and mother figure in our community. Thank you for all that you do.

We recognize the men and women who run toward danger when others are told to stay back.

We see their work up close, no hesitation, just commitment to others on their worst day.

To Norton Fire Division, thank you. We’re proud to stand beside you.

🧑‍🚒🚒 Today is International Firefighters’ Day — a time to honor the brave men and women who have committed their lives to serving others, and to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Every call they answer comes with uncertainty, yet they show up—ready to face the unthinkable with courage, compassion, and strength.

Take a moment today to thank a firefighter, reflect on their sacrifice, and show appreciation for those who stand ready to protect our community every single day.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing team serving our Norton community!❤️

Today we had the opportunity to recognize one of our own, Jason Seiberling, as he closes out his time with the Norton Police Department and begins a new chapter, in a new state.

In his time with us, he made a positive impact on this department and the community we serve. More importantly, he was the kind of officer and person you’re proud to stand next to- reliable, professional, and always ready when it mattered.

While we’re not sure how many birdies on the course he’ll rack up down south, we do know he’s earned every bit of this next chapter.

We’re proud of him, grateful for his service, and wish him nothing but the best in retirement. You will be missed and don’t forget the sunscreen!

Scam Alert from Summit County Prosecutor

Scam Alert from Summit County Prosecutor

‼️SCAM ALERT‼️

We have received calls from Summit County residents that are still receiving fraudulent calls claiming that they failed to appear for jury duty.

When one resident told the caller she never signed a jury summons, the caller indicated that it must be a case of forgery and that she should come to the Sheriff’s Office to review the signature. They then asked her to read some numerical codes back to her. The resident smartly refused to repeat the codes. The name the scammer provided the resident was not a name associated with a deputy, but the scammer did correctly name a supervisor in the Sheriff’s Office.

REMEMBER:

❗️The Summit County Sheriff’s Office does NOT call for failure to appears

❗️The Summit County Sheriff’s Office will NOT ask you to repeat numeric codes. This is often a tactic scammers use to record your voice so they can doctor it and use it in further scams.

❗️If you ever receive a suspicious call, HANG UP. Find a trusted number you know is safe and call back the alleged organization calling you yourself to verify if the call was real.

❗️Scammers rely on panic and pressure to make you act before verifying the legitimacy of the information or call.

❗️Report any instances of suspected fraud or scam attempts to your local law enforcement agency

A Letter from the Chief’s Office:

We love this community, and we care deeply about every person who calls Norton home.

Speeding is the number one complaint we hear, and last year we made 5,173 traffic stops.

But here’s the reality: most of the drivers we stop live right here in our community.

We will continue to be out there doing our part because you deserve that. But real change starts with all of us looking out for one another.

Slow down. Take care of each other. Take care of our community.
