NOTICE TO RESIDENTS

The Barre Selectboard and Water Commission would like to provide an update regarding the Town’s public water system.

One of the Town’s public water wells has been taken offline to allow for significant repairs. To ensure that residents continue to receive a safe and reliable water supply during this period, potable water will be transported from a neighboring community and added to the Town’s public water system until the well is repaired and returned to service.

The water will be delivered by stainless steel tanker trucks and transferred into the municipal water system under the oversight of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP). All water deliveries, transportation, and transfer procedures will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with all applicable state drinking water regulations. Representatives from MassDEP will be onsite as needed throughout this process.
To help conserve the Town’s water supply during this period, we ask all residents served by the public water system to refrain from all non-essential outdoor water use, including lawn watering, vehicle washing, filling pools, and other recreational or landscaping activities. Normal indoor water use, including drinking, cooking, bathing, laundry, and sanitation, may continue as usual.
There is no need to boil your water. The water remains safe for drinking, cooking, and all normal household uses.

The Town is working closely with engineering professionals to evaluate the condition of the well and determine the most effective repair plan. We are committed to keeping residents informed and will provide additional updates as more information becomes available regarding the repairs and anticipated timeline.
Town officials will provide an in-person public update on Tuesday, August 11, at 6:00 p.m. in the Selectboard Meeting Room. The meeting will also be broadcast live for those who are unable to attend in person.

We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and support as we work to restore the well and maintain reliable water service for our community.

Sincerely,
Barre Selectboard
Barre Water Commission

Town of Barre Emergency Water Use Ban

The Town of Barre Water System is currently under an Emergency Water Use Ban.

One of the Town's two water supply wells is currently out of service, requiring the water system to operate using only one well. To help maintain an adequate water supply, the Town will be
purchasing water from a neighboring community. State-approved drinking water tanker trucks will deliver water to supplement the system.

Residents may initially notice slight water discoloration as the supplemental water is introduced into the system. This discoloration does not mean the water is unsafe to drink.

The Water Department is working closely with the appropriate local and state agencies to restore normal operations as quickly and safely as possible.

During this emergency, it is essential that all residents conserve water. All outdoor water use is prohibited, including watering lawns, washing vehicles, filling pools, and other non-essential
activities. Residents are also asked to limit indoor water use to essential needs whenever possible.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping maintain a reliable water supply during this emergency. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and assistance as we work through this
situation.

Thank you for your cooperation.
David Cravin
