I have exciting news. I am running to be one of the Barre City Representatives to the State House in 2027! I have collected signatures, and I turned in my petition today.
I know there are a lot of challenges right now. Our national politics. The negative discourse. Our Vermont education system. The rising cost of everything. The limited resources and growing needs. But despite all of this, I want to go to Montpelier to make a difference. To use common sense, empathy, collaboration, and balance to make sure our state government works for everyone. Vermont is doing a lot of things right, but we need to keep our eye on the prize. I was recently reminded of the concept “Perfect is the enemy of good,” and I think we need to embrace it. How can we keep doing the good work for everyone without getting too caught up in making it perfect?
Will you help me be the newest State Representative from Barre City? I need your support to win this election and bring a strong, sensible, and compassionate voice to Montpelier. My 13 years on the school board, my 2 years on City Council, and the last 16 years as a small business owner have given me the foundation I need to be effective. I’m ready to get to work for our community and our state. When I think about the need for strong state legislatures now more than ever, I realize there is too much at stake to leave this to someone else.
Please consider a donation through my Venmo account or my ActBlue page (see below). You can also send me a check at my home address (send me a message and I can send you my address). Every dollar counts, and I appreciate anything you can give. It will help with lawn signs, postcards, running ads in the newspaper, and online, and of course, literature to leave when we knock on doors!
I am also looking for volunteers to host house parties, help with door-knocking and lit drops, help with lawn signs, and so much more. Please let me know if you can pitch in; it will take a village to make this happen, and I would love your support.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns you have; I’d love to hear from you!

We need to change how we fund public education in Vermont.

We need to change how we fund public education in Vermont.

When I'm talking about the need for systemic reform for our public education system it's because I see things like this.

Here's a school district in Vermont that just passed their school budget on a revote and their per pupil spending is over $16k. Meanwhile, here in Barre, we are struggling to pass a budget with an increase of less than 3% and our current per pupil spending is $11,470.

This is not an equitable distribution of resources. This is a system where education opportunities and outcomes are determined by zip code.

Kids in Barre deserve the same opportunities as other students. This is a broken system and the gap between low spending poor districts and high spending wealthy districts is growing.

Local boards have no control over the current funding formula or statewide education policies. Real change has to come from Montpelier.

HELP US MAP BARRE CITY’S STORM DRAINS

Join the City of Barre's Neighborly Barre Committee on Saturday, May 30 at 11:00 AM at the Aldrich Public Library for a community project focused on protecting Barre’s waterways.

We’ll start with a quick overview before heading out in small groups to map storm drain locations around the city. No experience needed, just bring comfortable walking shoes and a willingness to help out!

Small acts. Big impact. Join us.

We need to fix this for our kids and our community.

We need to fix this for our kids and our community.

Thanks to all who came out and voted yesterday.

We are struggling to pass a level program funded school budget. The failed budget represented a 2.73% increase over this year's spending. No new programs or significant increases were proposed.

The fact that the Barre Unified Union School District, one of the largest and lowest spending districts in the state, consistently fails to pass a budget demonstrates how fundamentally flawed our current education funding system is. The system is broken. It's not working for the working and middle class folks and it's not working for our kids.

We need real systemic change that benefits everyone. We need to move away from a system based on property taxes when home values are ballooning and wages are stagnant.

It's up to Montpelier to figure this out for us now.
